What a bummer... Prices have cratered over the last month and my a/c gave out this week so I had to clear some of the stash.

Cast Al (grills) 136lbs @ $.45 = $61.20
Al/Cu coolers 90lbs @ $1.10 = $99
Elec Motors 126lbs @ $.15 = $18.9
Car batteries 5 @ $3 = $15

As an aside, I had my picture taken at the yard for the first time (for the Al/Cu fins).

Hi, I'm new to the forum, I've been lurking for a couple of weeks and am finding lots of useful info here. Lately I have been collecting scrap metal and selling it to a scrap yard, then taking the proceeds and buying silver bullion coins. I'm hoping to build up a small stash for my retirement years. I've been finding washers, dryers, freezers, frig's, old fencing, aluminum lawn furniture, bicycles, anything large metal I pick up and take to the scarp yard. I've been getting between $.08 -.085 cents a pound, depending which scrap yard I go to. This is just a part time thing for me, which brings in a few bucks most weeks. What is surprising to me is the number of women who I see out there doing the same thing, there's a bunch. Times must be really tough out there.

I was starting to find the same issue. I purchased a homemade trailer made out of a 1/4 ton Toyota pickup bed for $50, and am now storing my aluminum in there since it is the bulkiest (other than steel, which goes on my flatbed). I am hoping by the time I get it filled the price of aluminum will be on its way back up. It is about 20% full right now.

Any chance you guys want to post what state you are in when you post what you scraped??? I'm in NJ and would love to see what areas of the country are getting what prices. I have the option of travelling to PA and DE if the markets are different. Hope to post my results soon.

Looking for a great summer read?? Stop by www.glennrambo.com You think the US/Mexican border is bad now??

I took in some Insulated Copper, $1.05 lb., Steel, $0.065 lb., and some extruded aluminium at$0.70 lb. Ended up with $45.00 for the lot. This is in Central FL.

Are you throwing that out?
