I just found a 1943 S nickel in the wild! I was going thru the Coffee change at work late this afternoon and was going to trade a dime for a nickel I saw and some cents. I moved the change around and saw an old-looking nickel. Looked at the date - 1940-something! I got excited! Turned it over and saw the big ole "S" on the back over the dome! Sweet!
Yes, I looked thru the rest of the change - no more silver. War nickels seem to be the "stealth" silver for many reasons. Good thing I have $200 worth of nickels ordered from my credit union - maybe there's more in that bag!
Keep looking everyone! There's more out there I am sure! Good luck!!!
Most recent book I've read: "Meltdown" by Thomas E. Woods Jr. Current book: "I.O.U.: Why Everyone Owes Everyone & No One Can Pay" by John Lanchester
They are fun to find, just wish they could be found a little more often! I'd definetly start ordering boxes of nickels if I could get an average of 3 or 4 per box ($100).
