One of my mom's friends has an 1865 $20 Double Eagle. She claims some internet website said it was worth $19,000. I tried to lower expectations saying that it would have to be very rare and in very good condition to be worth that much.

I found this example on Ebay asking $3500

The only difference is that this Ebay coin has an "s" and the coin in question has "d" mint mark. Any idea what its worth.

P.S. This coin is said to be in "very good" shape.

There was no "D" mint mark for this year and type.

I'm assuming that the coin is not slabbed

Sorry, she just said there is "D" next the "twenty." Without thinking I assumed that it was a mint mark. They apparently all have the "D." Unfortunately at this point I don't know the mint mark.

Anyway, somebody at one at one of these traveling coin buying outfits offered $1,000 for it.
