Take a wooden tooth pick and very gently rub over those bumps. If they can squish in and pop, then they are gas bubbles from the minting or plating process.
If they are hard and don't pop, then they would be something like a die chip since they are not touching the rim. It is my understanding that to be a cud it must touch the rim.

PTP, I am thinking the same thing about being air/gar bubbles. Looks like it has the measles. |

I've thought some of mine had measles or chicken pox before. LOL
I know when I was first starting to search through coins and to look for errors I would think that I had found so many cool errors. This would usually turn out not to be the case. Thankfully, though with the guidance of many patient well-versed coin people I have developed a better eye (which is really ironic with my vision problem) and can more times than not now tell if I have truly found an error. I am still fooled often and am still learning. And learning is one of the best aspects of this fun hobby.
Enjoy your coin searches, everyone.

I've seen a few like this before. Eventually this will be a VERY ugly Abe. This has a worse than usual amount of air pockets under the plating. And that's exactly why zincolns suck. |

Thank you for the input! This coin is a peculiar one to me. I feel like there is a bit more going on than subsurface corrosion. At any rate, back to sorting! Good luck everyone! |

Were I in your shoes, I certainly would keep it, but seal it up. If you have an "air-tite" that would be best, or a 2x2 would help preserve it. I'd call it mumps or something! |

I think that this coin was struck a few times with the coin rotating in the die each time. The 'measles' on the top of lincolns head area are residual hair lines from previous strikes that were flattened down in subsequent strikes. |

When grease of buffing compound is not properly removed from the surface before plating it will not plate on that part of the surface. So the plating grows from the edge and plates over the problem area. In the plating industry they call it bubble or adhesion problems. |

I agree with magnasort.
I received a professional opinion about this coin today - a brief look-over. I was told "die-chatter" and some plating issues are to blame for the look.
"Die Chatter"
I have yet to be able to understand the variations in the roof reliefs.
