Hello all....
I am curious what your experiences are with different national banks. I personally use WAMU and, though their customer service is great for most things, they keep very little coin on hand. They are good about ordering it, but I find that somewhat of a hassle.
A buddy of mine works for BoA and they apparently keep a fair quantity of boxes of all coins on hand at his branch, and he thinks all the others as well.
I am just curious if there are banks to solidly avoid b/c of policy or difficulty, or ones that you have had good or great luck with.
Happy sorting all!

BofA tends to have a lot of coin in the L.A./Orange county areas. My main branch always has two boxes of halves for me and if they have more they offer them also. The 3-4 branches that I use often tend to be pretty friendly.
I also use Wells Fargo as a "deposit only" bank. They tend to have more stuffy tellers that make up rules for their window only. I am proud to say one WF (merchant teller) actually told me to never come back with halves to deposit because I filled up their vault. This is not the biggest branch and I would only bring in 10-20 rolls every two weeks. I was always polite but this cow (she was wearing a moomoo)decided the rolls were too much.
WaMu is friendly but I don't have an account yet.

When trying to purchase/return large amount of coins, I would say that the experience varies not so much by the name of the bank, but more so by the attitudes of the tellers and manager at the bank.
As for which ones keep the most coin on hand, that largely depends on which businesses have accounts at the bank...again it is not so much related to the name of the bank.
Also if you don't want to order ahead, it is always going to be hit or miss no matter which bank you go to.
Personally, I pick up the same number of boxes every week from 2 different banks. One of the banks automatically orders for me and the other one, I have to remind them every week. I find that ordering ahead is less of a hassle and more efficient then randomly cruising banks hoping they have some extra change... |
