Wow. I'm lucky. Day 2-3 about $500 in, and I hit a 96.

Found a nice 1911 today also.

What's in it for the dude?

never found one in 65 yrs of searching pennies for the 43 copper, just change in the 40s,50s,the cash register at my place in the 60s,70s,80s, change again in the 90s and serious searching of rolls and bricks in the 00s.

one time i was pushing up top soil with a dozer way out in the boon docks miles from any town and that night it rained, the next morning i was walking around cking to see if it was too muddy to push more and I found an 1853 big penny but it wasn't worth the copper it was made of back then.another time i found a 1925 quarter which i still have.

That's why having a Ryedale is so great. It accelerates the search several times over, then all you do is search your zinc pile. I didn't start finding any until I started searching $500 a week. finding that 1853 must have been a kick!

I had never found one in over 40 years of searching.. until I really cranked up the volume a few years ago. It's a volume and luck thing.

I think this thread brought me luck. Found an 1896 in Fine condition today. It has been so long since I found one that when I saw the tails side up in a bed of zinc I thought it was Canadian George V for half a second.

conga rats! When I spotted mine it's back was showing too, and it was jumping around from other zincs hitting it and burying it momentarily. For just a second, I thought I'd found two together. Crum

Thanks. It's been pretty lean this year compared to the prior couple of years. Guess I just need to "sort more!"

Well until around December I didn't sort pennies for copper, I just sorted them for wheats. Before then I didn't keep track of my sorting. I do know that in 2010 I have sorted a measly 31,000 pennies or so and have found 2 wild indians (1909 and 1896). No George V yet for me though. And I have yet to find a foreign coin that wasnt Canadian.

MOVING SALE!!! Selling Copper Cents 1.4 shipped - in limited quantities PM me and we'll talk.

Just found another. 1891, pretty well worn. Only 4500 searched since last find! Nor sure what's going on... are older cents re-entering circulation because of the economy? Anyway, this now makes 8 in 892,000 searched = 1 every 111,5000 I was really surprised to find one this quickly

Now I feel like I'm entering the Twilight Zone. In the same searched pile, 500 cents later I found another IHC, a blackened 1890. That drops the avg to 1 every 99,222. I probably won't find another for eons
