So I've been using Coinstar machines to dump my zinc and using the gift card option to avoid paying fees, but I've bought all I need at Circuit City, KB Toys and itunes (which are some of the gify card options.)
Today I figured out that CVS drug stores (which have coinstars) give CVS gift cards which can be used to buy American Express and Visa gift cards that can be used anywhere!
Yea I about had a cow cashing in 40 dollars worth so mom could get a 50 dollar amazon gift card... Took forever.
If I could get the 10 dollar bonus I might be willing to stand there and drop a bag of zincs in the machine.. but I would bring a chair and a good book to read.
If your percentages are low.. just sort more.
"Preserving REAL coinage.. 2 tons at a time... and FAKE coinage.. a quarter ton at a time.. just for speculation"
I don't know if you guys have Century Bank in your area. But, if you do, Century may be offering free coin counting. Century has branches all over the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and they are very convenient for turning in all your zincs and sorted halves.
I don't know if some machines are different or if I am just exceptionally patient, but I took about $40 FV zincs into a Coinstar at CVS and (loosely) timed the machine as it counted. It honestly ran about 550-600 coins a minute, in line with the company information.
The idea of using the Coinstar based CVS cards to but American Express (or other) Gift Cards / Cash Cards is brilliant! I had not thought of that, thanks!
