i was short on cash, so , went to wf to cash in some rolled pennies. an dnoooooooo this branch does not have a 'counter',
they refused to take my coin. and this is the one i use every day. due to a previously good relationship.
i use that branch as my dump. only when very 'needy' do i buy a box or two there.
so , there goes yet another . and before someone says.''one on every corner' . it is becoming a bit of a bother in this town of 1.2 million folks.
the local boa's will no longer sell coin to anyone but merchants. chase is fickle. one will not sell me boxes or rolled. but will sell me the cwr. while a cu, will not sell me cwr. but will sell me bwr.
grrrrrrr.
sorry, venting... lol

| one box, 25.00. they claimed there was a commplaint that i had too many 'uglies' in what i had brought in previously. by removing the cu, i suppose to some extent does tend to make the bad more concentrated. but also , garbage in garbage out. |

Might be time to set up shop in another town. Merchants can be somewhat touchy about getting those uglies in their rolls.. especially when they are paying the bank a fee to provide them coin. The banks are supposed to retire the bad coins and send them in for destruction.. but that never happens. You just got the blame for returning coins in the same condition you received them. I try to remove any seriuosly ugly ones from the mix and spend them one at a time or handroll them and have them deposited anonomysly. They are bad for my machines and nobody wants them. |

Pennies are esp. bad in states where it snows and the salt reacts with pennies that stay on the ground until spring.

The banks play the game of trying to pass those "bad" pennies onto the next guy. But they keep coming back.. |

| What uglies? You are already removing all those ugly old copper coins that are 30+ years old. What more could they ask for in your public service hobby? |

| Just open a business account. Go to the SOS website, create XXXCoin, llc. and get a TIN. Use the TIN to open your account and there you go, business account which requires a large amount of coinage. |

| Yeah, but with a Business account goes the FEES for coin. Most Banks do charge businesses for whatever coin they order. |

They also charge businesses for turning in coin. I always have specify that I am using my personal account when doing coins at Chase. Seems they want to track everything. I am sure they would want to charge me for being a nice guy and taking all their CWR so they don't have to ship it if they could associate these transactions with my business account. |

Hoard brings up a important point that the banks are not doing their job of taking the damaged and worn coins out of circulation. He makes another point that they track everything.
I dump at BB&T's which I keep an account with. On the printout, it displays the denomiantion and amouts of coins dumped, so if they are paying attention, they know exactly what I'm doing. I'm sensitive to this and spread my dumps around to the various BB&T's in my area to try to lessen this impact. Of course I'm small time at this as my name states so hopefully I don't raise any red flags!
One final point, many times when I check the return tray, there is all kinds of junk in there - small pebbles, wadded up candy wrappers... No wonder some banks get ticked. It's hard to say if individuals or businesses or both are dumping trash in the counting machines.

Boy do I feel lucky. I get two weekly automatic 50.00 pickups at two wells fargo branches. Both branches call me when they get big cwr dumps (penny drives etc).
My dump bank, where I have a business, personal and rental property account welcomes my bagged returns.
After reading this I'm knocking on wood. But I'm still small time. Let's see what happens. |
