I just recieved 5 1988 SAE that I bought off of Ebay and they look a little different. They feel the same; sound the same and wiegh exactly the same as some 2009s that I have. However, they don't have the white appearance that I've grown accustomed to. I was thinking that there might be some differences in the minting process between these and more recent coins.
Actually, it just occurred to me that these coins may have been cleaned. Any thoughts?

| I seem to recall reading somewhere that ASEs were originally minted as you describe your 1988s, and then were changed to the satin finish later, but for the life of me I can't seem to find the year they were changed... |

That's what I was hoping to hear. I think 1988 was the third year SAEs were minted, so there is a decent chance that they were minted using the original method.
Thanks! |

they became all satin in 1990, the 88s were satin with a frosted walking liberty.
