Hey everyone. This is my second post, and I'm enjoying realcent a lot! I'll just introduce myself first. I live in Japan, and have access to American Military Bases. For those of you who do not know, after WWII, when Japan lost, America set up a bunch of little bases all around Japan. Inside those bases are like a mini-America. They have American schools, shopping centers, diners, and ofcourse, banks! I search through about $80 in nickel bank rolls a week, not much, but if you're living in Japan, I guess it's a lot! Well, that's my short introduction. Now here's my question to you all. Do I have the oldest buffalo nickel found on this site? I found a 1913-S Type I buffalo nickel on Dec 1, 2009. The date is worn slick, but I can tell it's a 1913 because of the raised mound on the back. If I do have the oldest one, than awesome!
HH all.

If you mean found in a roll from banks, then I think you may just have the oldest! I have not found any buffalo from any bank, so it is lucky to get even a more common date buffalo. Interesting introduction! I also think you may be the only one here from Japan. Kirkland |

I am sorting through several dozen old Buff nickels from a collection - I have 2 that "appear" to be on a mound, but I cannot tell - no dates, of course. How do you distinguish between a mound and just a really worn-down thin line under the Buff?
It is possible that I have 2 1913's - some others are from 1914 and a few years after. Thanks! |
Most recent book I've read: "Meltdown" by Thomas E. Woods Jr. Current book: "I.O.U.: Why Everyone Owes Everyone & No One Can Pay" by John Lanchester |
