Okay, I don't get it. Only sorting Canadian or what? A U.S. nickel is a nickel right? They all have the same composition correct? 75% Cu correct?(Not counting the 35% Ag during the WWII years of course). Forgive me if I'm totally missing something. I come from the land of gold and silver, and I am just getting my feet wet here. I understand searching for specific coins and such. I keep all nickles now, I just want to make sure I'm not missing out on something.

Deal

p.s. Not a whole lot of Canadian in the middle of the country....

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

Well, no sooner do I say no Canadian here, than low and behold....I have a 1961 Canadian nickle in my pocket! A little beaver on the back....huh. Not round either....odd. Is the new Canadian nickle this same non-round design?

The 12-sided young elizabeth nickels are some of the nicer Canadian pure nickel coins, in my opinion. They stopped the 12-sided style many decades ago.

I've long been of the opinion that anyone in the US with half a brain (who isn't hoarding pennies) should at very least be putting their paper "assets" into boxes of nickels (just order them from the bank...) because they are the only honest money left in the system, and you can still get them at face value. After they're gone, that's it. The US dollar will have 0 support. The time to get them is now.

Welcome to the forum NotABigDeal.

The "big deal" with Candian Nickels (dated 1955-1981) are made out of 99% pure nickel. Since nickel has been on a tear lately a pure nickel from Canada is worth .13¢, more than double face value, as in get a roll of Canadian nicks for two bucks, melt them down, presto, $5.20 worth of metal, over 100% profit, no effort other than finding Canadian Nickels made of nickel.

The Canadian Government and Canadian Mint changed the content of their nickels so they are no longer 99% nickel.

Those who are hoarding Canadian Nickels are doing so for two reasons:

1. Melt value
2. Numismatic value. Yes, that is right, since the Canadian Government is now rounding up Canadian coins made of nickel eventually the few coins that are left will develop a numismatic demand (think wheat pennies or if you prefer, silver 5 cent coins.)

I nicknamed nickel "silver junior" since the demand and price of nickel is behaving just like what happened in the 1960's for silver.

If you can get ahold of Canadian Nickels for face value do it now before the supply dries up for good.

(I can't spell worth a darn tonight.)
I should have chosen "Cut-n-Paste" as a forum name, since that is what I do, mostly.

Wow. You know a thread's old when these guys are welcoming NotABigDeal.
I like some of these really old threads. I think we should start reviving them. I've found many good threads while digging, and I'm sure it brings back many memories for the long time members here.

I love the clickety-clack sound Canadian nickels make.
There's a reason the Canadian gov't is reclaiming them...
Great bullion play...If I had the cash, I'd buy 'em by the ton!
