At lunch today I went to the park to sort pennies. My ryedale machine jammed up pretty good. I had to almost take it apart. Right before the part that determines good/bad a copper coin the size of a nickel jammed up tight.
It is dated 1835 or 1855 on the back. On the front it says UN OCTAVO and has a woman kneeling, she is holding a stick with a hat on it. When I first saw it I thought SEATED LIBERTY but I could not remember if it was made in copper and I didn't have my magnifying glass with me. The back is harder to read and has a flag and a quiver of arrows. It is definately foreign and in fair shape. Can't take a scan of it for a day or two.
One of the guys on another forum I belong to posted this photo, an exact match and a little better shape. You must be logged in to see this link. I can not figure out how to upload a pic so I hope this works. It is a link to the photo.
It is a Mexican coin - the last word on the side with the date is Jalisco, which is the capital of Mexico. It is a copper coin. Un Octavo means 1/8.
Here's a link which has some info, but all in Spanish, which you can translate in the web page at the bottom of this post. You must be logged in to see this link.
