Today I was pondering what the historical range of exchange rates for copper to silver and copper to gold were in non fiat currency basis. I figure the data and history is available but I have no idea where to start.
Would anyone care to enlighten me on this topic? I would appreciate the knowledge.
I would start at kitco.com and look at the historical charts. Of course, the charts give prices in US dollars but you can do a little math and figure out the value of the metals against each other.
Also, google "gold silver ratio" That will give some good charts. I don't know if anyone is out there making charts that compare copper to true precious metals though.
since the industrial revolution, the demand for copper and to a lesser extent silver has ebbed and flowed with the business cycle. i would be surprised if there was a meaningful long term relationship with copper like there is for silver and gold since they are substitutes for each other on a certain level.
