I have taken several compressors apart down to the metal cylinder that has the copper wire wound all thru it. Does this wire need to be removed (some of them would be a royal pain), or will a scrap yard pay more for it than just tin price?
In most cases you can get a little better price that just steel for A/C compressors. I'm pretty sure they call them sealed units. Ask you local yards, ask around as some will buy them, some won't. Depending on the type of compressor, some of the motors are bolted in and some are pressed in. The bolted in type are easy to remove the winding. Take it out and sell it as electric motor scrap. The pressed in windings are hard to get out and not really worth messing with.
