Hi all-
Northern Illinois appears to be all trapped out, fellas. I haven't gotten a decent half score in a month!! I started the year off VERY well, but since then = Crap!
Anyone else feeling the burn?

| Yeah. Too bad. My silver scores have really been dormant this month, but my penny finds have been absolutely spectacular. Guess that made up for my bad luck in halves. |

I've been dumping a ton of halves in Zion and Waukegan, trying to get them out of WI... Enjoy. :)

I had one sweeeeeeet bag a few weeks ago. I don't think that I have had a total skunk week this year. You just have to sort more.
Make sure you are not dumping at a bank that uses the same armored car service as your pick-up bank. |

The stats don't lie. With 60% skunks ratings across all Half searchers, some of us are not going to be enjoying this period of low returns.
I have found 1 40% through about 9 skunks. It's hard to want to continue searching, but you can't find silver halves unless you search. Personally i just switched my funds around and will now do both copper sorting and some half hunting.
I'm not greedy, i just want maybe a handful each box is that so much to ask?
BTW wags just saw your you tube video yesterday. Do you speed up the recording or are you really sorting that fast? I too would think twice about a ryedale if i could sort as fast as you!

My sources are fairly cleaned out. I haven't had boxes like those south of me for a year. I found a hot spot at a small bank and when that was gone, so were the big finds.
I have pretty much exhausted my choices and will continue with brute force unless I cannot fund the hunt.
Money is tight as hell in my industry and everyday is the loaves and fishes.
I still find huge amounts of interesting stuff and can always relie on the war nickel a box.
I certainly don't consider hunting nickels a silver hunt. Just a side show.
I collect coins and silver is gravy.
Pass the gravy please!

| I have not been able to get halves for the last two months. One good thing is I can't get skunk if I can't sort. |

| I'm still finding SILVER halves in central Virginia. January was terrible for me, but February has been great for finding SILVER halves. Sometimes I have to search through the SKUNKS to get to the good stuff. I'm not getting my dumps back because I dump at a Dunbar serviced bank and get halves at a Brinks serviced bank. That seems to let me get to the good stuff once I get through the SKUNKS on top of the pile. |

| Country, I wouldnt bet you dont get your searched halves back. I pick up sometimes with Dunbar and have on occasion been supplied by Dunbar, coin counter bags that come from Brinks. Says it on the bag. I really think that when the suppliers run low they buy between themselves rather than going back to the main source. |

It may be true that Brinks gets some coins from Dunbar when they run low. However, I clean out everything from my boxes, including the NIFCs, and I rarely get a box without any keepers. When I see NIFCs, I know that the halves I get are not my dumps. |

| May not exactly be yours but another searcher. There are so many people doing this now, its hard not to be searching someone elses dumps. Even the bags I get that have silver have numerious marked coins. Guess I get lucky every once in a while and find something someone dumped into the counter. Anywho, happy hunting. |

Exactly...
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
THIS IS A NICHE MARKET.
Unfortunately, this is what happens when people feel the need to share with others there good fortune (brag) by talking and posting their finds for the entire world wide web to see.
Discretion is what is needed.
In most states it would only take a couple of dozen people ( or less) to completely saturate the half market.
The good ole days,
are gone...

You are spot on...
Between this forum, and the Treasure Net, and Coin Community forums, there are at least 8 members I know of who are literally neighbors who halve hunt.
4 of my banks have tellers who have told me they order halves for other customers.
I ran into the Total Armor guy one day at TCF while dumping. We got to talking and he said him and his partner are delivering boxes of halves all the time.
A Brinks driver commented to a teller that he has a coin dealer on his route that he delivers and picks up from, and he too always has boxes of halves in his deliveries.
Everybody knows why, to look for Ag.
In my area, it doesn't matter where one buys/dumps. You got a dozen folks buying from Brinks supplied sources, and a dozen buying from a CWI supplied source. These boxes are flying back and forth and crossing paths between the 2 companies.
There are more web sites and blogs praising the virtues of CRH halves for Ag than I can keep track of. The Golden Age of halve hunting is drawing to a close...
On a plus note, dimes are producing better than ever for me right now.

| Switched to mostly dimes for now in SE Wisconsin. Halves are either feast or (mostly) famine. One of my half dollar banks(US Bank)has stopped ordering them alltogether. |

| In the Oregon area, I believe I saw a significant drop in Ag last Sept, and for me at least, it continues to be much less than this time last year. I know of many bank tellers who pull out the silver, most before it goes into their machines, or in rolls, but a few after the coins have gone thru the counter. So, in addition to many people looking for coins, there are also increasingly bank tellers active in the pursuit of Ag. |

When I spot a silver edged-half in the teller's tray and ask for all her halves I always cringe when I notice her looking at the halves closely while she's counting. All it takes is one educated teller in a bank and you can pretty much forget about loose silver halves and hope like heck they don't check the rolls, too. |

Hi there redneck-
Well, apart from that seated liberty, I'm not really one to disclose my finds either, but I look at it like this-
1) I found out about half hunting through the kitco forum in late 2007. Someone told me about it, so I can't hold it against anyone else if they decide to half hunt from hearing about a forum since I came from those humble beginnings too.
2) Unless they discontinue the half dollar, finding silver will NEVER be "extinct." We're all searching like maniacs for silver, and hopefully finding good-sized stashes, but who's to say one of our family members won't cash them in at face when we're gone, and start the cycle all over again? Or, if some old guy buys a bunch of $1000 bags from apmex, croaks, and his "little old lady" wife cashes them in? A little morbid, but I'm sure similar scenarios have happened over time.
3) We're still finding silver 40 YEARS after they were pulled from circulation. I don't think it will all be wrapped up and done in 2 years. It might not exactly be economically feasible, but as long as I'm not getting hit with fees I HAVE to ride this pony.
Just my opinions, but I do see your points.
