I mainly buy 90%, but I also buy a roll or two of SAEs, phils, maples, and libertads each year.
I know they are not the most liquid form of silver... but think they will eventually catch on.
I've been buying 10 rolls every once in awhile on E-bay for about $1.50-$2.00 below spot. I've accumulated over 100 oz (about 50 rolls) thus far. They aren't the prettiest coins... but silver is silver, right?
I've heard that the manganese makes refining harder, but I don't see the need to refine. The coins were minted by the US and it is a fact there is 35% silver in each coin. They have silver/barter value without melting, just like 40%, 80%, 90%, and sterling.

well now that I know they go for that much below spot, I'll be lookin for them! silver is silver, but silver below spot is better silver.
IMO, keep on keepin on. |
metal is a claim on future human labour. let's all go get some while the getting is good, eh? |

| The less pure an item is, the cheaper it can be aquired relative to spot. Remeber though, it will be the same thing when you go to sell them. If you like them, keep getting them. Personally, I wouldn't have a large percentage of my silver holdings in them, but to each their own. Buy what you like. |

| I do not go out and intentionally purchase war nickels, but I do coin roll hunt boxes of nickels and specifically look for them. I have found a total of about 3 rolls. What I like about them is if we go into hyperinflation, then they would be good as another denomination for bartering. Say when an item you want is not worth a silver dime, a war nickel might be good to use. |

| I bought a bunch last year for 50-55 cents each. At the time they bullion value was 80+ cents each. I don't think they will ever be worth as much as the silver content, however, they will still be worth more than FRNs. |

I will buy if the deal is outstanding, but I don't really look for these normally to out right buy.
I would not recommend holding too many of these in your stash... IMO... |

| I will buy if the price is right. They will never fetch melt value but they are the highest times face silver coin out there. I like finding them in my till at work. They are only 5 cent each that way. |

I get that they probably won't ever be worth face value. I also think that they won't become worth less on a relative basis either. If they are selling for 10% under spot at $15 silver, they will still be selling at around 10% under spot at $30. Plus as someone else said, there is more upside. Who knows what will happen in the future.. maybe they will trade closer to face. For the record, they make up less than 2% of my physical silver.
On a side note, APMEX did have them awhile back for as low as $2 under spot. Now the lowest you can get them there is $0.50 under spot. I've also seen them going on E-bay for over 90 cents each. If you search hard enough, you can get them under 80 cents each (S&H included). |

Hi there-
I agree with oober and wayne. I wouldn't specifically buy war nicks,(unless it's a great deal) but they do have value and having 10-20 rolls wouldn't hurt in diversifying your stash.
For the same reason, I like to have a little Canadian silver in my stash too. Just in case.

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

| I like them, probably because I just like nickels though. After about a year of checking change, the coffee fund at work, and some CRH I've found a grand total of one war nick, but I still keep looking of course. |

The small of % is quite fine then. I cannot remember where I read it, but I believe back when the silver spike was on, that "junk silver" actually traded at a lower % of spot.
So if 90% was 100% of spot at 10, 98 at 20, 95 at 30 etc... Hypothetical numbers, but you get my drift...
Maybe some of the members who bought and sold during that time and confirm or deny this... Thanks |

I can confirm that when silver first started moving up quickly that you could find 90% quite easily UNDER SPOT. 40%/35%/Canadian (80%) can be found under spot with some patience any time.
In fact, during that time generic rounds were going UNDER SPOT from time to time.
Once the price stabilized the premium for 90% and generic rounds was back quickly though. |

| I like 'em, but I don't purchase them, just roll hunt. Haven't found one in months. I've found a couple of Buffalo nickels in that time, though, and I get a bigger high from them, actually! |

I've bought them in the past, but not actively buying them right now. Thinking of offering a trade for 40% silver halves.......
I like them, but have enough for the time. Still at anything less than 80% of spot I would buy in a second. |
