Well I got a super deal on silver eagles today bought 14 of them for 15.69 each :D But when I bought them they had a funky odor to them, a very stinky problem it was.. I put them in a coffee can to mask the odor cause i coudn't stand the stench in my car.. Well i got home and decided to clean these puppies.. Well i used BLEACH!!! Well, I learned that bleach oxidizes the silver :( Tarnishing the silver.. Making a 2007 look like a 64 haha So what ever you do dont use bleach...
Btw My coins smell good now :)

Sounds like you got a hold of some stink silver there my friend. They were likely hid in the holding tank of an outhouse. I blame the dealer who sold them to you. You did what you had to do. Don't feel bad about it.

You can use nail polish remover and its much less harsh than bleach.

I wonder if soaking in mouth wash would have harmed them. They would have been minty fresh.

Before you use Tarnex and potentially damage the coins, you may want to consider trying this if the tarnish is the result of sulfur oxidation (not sure if exposure to bleach will fast-track sulfur oxidation but...):
Get a glass or ceramic baking pan or bowl. Line the container it with aluminum foil. Take a cup filtered tap water, or better distilled water, and boil it. Add a table spoon of either table salt or baking soda (it will foam up when you add this to the water, so be careful not to add it too quickly). Stir the mixture until all of the salt or baking soda is fully dissolved. Place the coins in the container with the aluminum foil. Pour the still very hot water/baking soda or salt solution onto the coin. This method will clean tarnish off of dark coins to make them shine like new without any impact to the mint luster. This may or may not work based on the tarnish resulting from exposure to bleach, but it is a quick "home remede" to try before spending money on Tarnex.
