Soooo many times I get back a 1965 quarter in my change. Two times this week in fact. There has only been one instance where I was lucky enough to get a 1964 while getting change at the store. Well as the wise say, "Just sort more." :) Happy hunting all.

I know what you mean. Whenever I get a 1965 quarter in change, I'm always thinking, "Why couldn't you have been just one year earlier?!"

1965 is one of the most common years because they had to replace, as rapidly as possible, all the coin stock that was being pulled from circulation.

And he that hath lyberte ought to kepe hit wel / For nothyng is better than lyberte / For lyberte shold not be wel sold for alle the gold and syluer of all the world.

In Canada 1968's are probably worse in some ways because even after seeing the date it still could be silver. Those ones with a silver-looking metal tone that stick to a magnet are a kick in the pants sometimes.

psi,

I know exactly what you mean.
If they are almost uncirulated, you can tell them apart easily (light metal = silver, dark metal = nickel).
When they are circulated, it is very easy to get fooled.
I have seen several white colored ones that stick to a magnet and many dark colored ones that don't stick.
It pays to have a small magnet handy to make sure.

I haven't found a pre-'65 quarter in circulation in many, many months. I'll never forget when I worked at a bookstore about ten years ago, and found nearly ten dollars' worth in the cash register. Of course, nobody else working there had a clue what they were, and I was able to change a FRN for some real money! I still have 'em, too. They were mostly '64's.
