Picked up a bunch of CWR Canadian pennies in a bank in Toronto. Excited upon discovery of dates written on six of the rolls. 1975 1981 1982 1987 etc. - all copper ages. The penny visible on the end was the right date and had that nice new penny colour. But on opening them, found that each roll had only five to ten pennies of the year on the label, and the remainder were all steel.
No need to go back for the rest.

Don't be too upset, mickeyman. When I read "steel" I was thinking about our 1943 steel pennies here in the US, but then I remembered that modern Canadian pennies are steel, not zinc like ours. Anyway, there isn't any reason to be downhearted. Maybe another bank in your area has solid copper rolls. It's happened to me before. Kirkland |

Bummer. However, I might start writing Indian Heads on the rolls I turn back in now, just to discourage other sorters in my area.
Do not be discouraged, ALWAYS get the rest when you can. This is like craps. you have a x in XX chance to roll a certain number. Lets say one in six to simplify.
Just because you have rolled something other than your number 5 times and the odds say 1 in six there is no guarantee that your next roll will be the one you want, the odds are reset every roll.
Point is, you just never know whats in there till you look! Always look when you can, at least with these "lottery tickets" you never "really" lose ! |

Hey MM, sorry about your disappointment. Just curious, since I've never seen this addressed in our threads. I was wondering roughly what percentage of Lincolns you get north of the border mixed in with your own Canadian pennies. I'm wondering if the members who live near the border get about a 50/50 mix or what? How do the mintage figures from Canada compare to the US for cents? I'm wondering if - when copper doubles or triples someday - whether it would be worth it to hold onto canadian penny rolls in hopes of getting more for the 98% copper vs the 95% copper... and also how the value of the Canadian dollar vs the US Charmin might play out? |
Hoard now and hold on!

I think there is a guy on here that uses this quote. Since I know he is not the wise man, I wonder who he is quoting?
mickeyman, I wouldn't worry about the competition. There are plenty of coppers still left. Just keep searching. |

Never judge a book coin roll by it's cover wrapper.
I have gotten some of my best finds in brand spanking new wrappers. The older worn frayed wrappers that always seem oh so promising of finding lost treasures, always seem to be the ones that somebody is reusing. Rarely with anything good in them.

| I live about an hour north of the Montana border and usually get 4-5 lincolns per roll of 50 pennies. |

| I find quite a few US pennies and nickels. I actually roll them up for deposit in the US. 1/10 of a cent profit adds up over a few boxes. Figure I need to return the zincs somewhere, might as well dump them back in the US. |

Nice Jade,
See it works against us here in the states when i find the zinc CA's. I always feel guilty loading a roll with CA's but what else are we to do. Just think of the days when the exchange was 1.5. Those would be good times to find us coins at 1:1 exchange. |
