A few months ago there was a post that had a breakdown of how many copper pennies by year were still in circulation. I tried to search for it but had no luck. Could someone point me in the right direction?

That would be a pretty interesting thread to read, since I don't think even the Treasury Dept has accurate figures for that. Anything that someone came up with would be a pure guesstimate... which is actually something I'm trying to accomplish on the Fed Reserve post. If we can get several hundred reports of percentages (the size of your sort samples doesn't matter, but the more data the better... even from the same members on consecutive sorts) compiled from all the districts I can weight them by population representations and compile a reasonably accurate number. I figure there's somewhere around 62.5 (plus or minus 2) billion copper cents left out there (based on a nationwide 25% rate)... but that anyone could tell you how many are still circulating by individual year? Impossible. IMHO |
Hoard now and hold on!

I think that you are looking for this thread: You must be logged in to see this link.
Maybe more specifically, this spreadsheet:

edit:
I had to hunt down the original file and adjust it. I found it, added some features, and jiggled some statistics. The upload link should work. You have to click that link and then download the file onto your computer. Virus free, no worries. It is in Excel format, so you can play around with it if you'd like. |

Wow, that really is some piece of work you have there. You need to make it in text format and sticky it. |

I'm not sure if I can post that in text format... need some help on this if anyone can
Also, I think that the "rate of reduction" percentages are probably debatable, so I think that the Excel spreadsheet is the best way to present this information. This way, a user can decide what the yearly rate of reduction would be.
Any cell in the spreadsheet that has a border is a primary variable... ie. you put in a different value, and the data changes according to the functions' calculations. You can alter the year, the rate of reduction percentage, the population of America, and the price of copper
edit: Oh, only a mod or admin can make something sticky, but if they want to do so, then I can start a new thread with the information and then it can be made a sticky. I'll leave it up to other members. |
