On the West Coast there's a restaurant chain called Marie Callandar's. They charge for the pie tine when you buy a pie, then redeem your money if you return them. It does seem like it would be better to take them back, rather then try to cash them at a recycler.
I work at a site with about thirty employees, and the patients or staff are always bringing in pies. They throw the tins away if I don't salvage them. Probably get about three or four a week.
I was told not to mix other aluminum with my cans. One time I tried to put some aluminum foil with my cans and they said they give a different rate for non-cans.

This is an awesome post. Just keep bringing them back for the deposit money. The restaurant is clearly giving more money to save on the cost of the pie tins. Unless they don't use them which would make me utterly confused as to why they would pay more for the tin...
That sure is a lot of pies. Three to four a week. I think i understand why you started walking

You really shouldn't mix aluminum foil in with cans. Foil is paid at a much lower rate, and in my book is hardly worth saving. I think I used to get maybe 5 cents a pound when cans were around 50 cents a pound.
I had a similar return thing going with glass milk bottles. They were expensive to purchase and the company wanted them back. So yeah returning for that amount helps everyone>

The places I frequent will not accept any other type of Al with cans. I've been saving large Al disposable baking trays as I've found they come in quite handy when I need something to catch a mess. For example I always put one or two under a grill while I break it down to catch all the crap that falls.
