The "Paying for gas in zincs" thread got me thinking about those self-checkout lines in stores that you can feed coins into as well as FRN's. What's the most you've tried to feed into those? Do they fill up pretty quick?
My Kroger supermarket accepts pennies. I normally feed it (the machine) the change portion of the bill or a little extra. Example: $54.37. I drop in 37-137 zincolns depending on the line of customers behind me tapping their feet looking at their watches. I have a good dump bank….. this is just a car ashtray sort ritual thing.
when i first started coin hunting. I would regularly pay off the entire grocery bill with change. it was a bit excessive with nickels and dimes, but i remember doing a couple of these in the mid $100 range. THe nice thing is if you doing fill the machine you usually go about it without anyone bothering you with strange looks.

I've used a small handfull of pennies bit it takes too long to insert them one at a time. The coin slots are usually big enough for a half dollar but the ones I've tried didn't accept them.
I just take a couple of bricks of pennies up to the service counter and tell them I want to buy a $50 store card or convert to cash to buy groceries with but I know they don't have enough room in the till for all those pennies. They can use the pennies, and they are happy that you are going to spend all your money in their store.
