Keep us posted on any preparation oversights you find and how you're correcting them, Billo. I'm sure we can all learn a lot even from small things like this.
Too many oversights to list. But here's an example that struck me even before moving in. When looking around at houses with an agent, I realized that the garage door opener codes are often in view. Thus a criminal could pose as a house shopper, get codes, and be ready to easily get in when the house is occupied. But even if you change it they could maybe have a specially-rigged universal opener. Don't depend on just the garage door. Ditto for any lock--a crossbar might be a nice addition. And know specifically what you are going to do if a situation does arise.
Somebody actually stole the car snow cover off my car in the driveway recently! I was shocked. I was all steamed and thinking about what to do...then came down with the flu. (Just recovered these last couple of days!) I don't even live in a bad neighborhood. Must be the liberals feeling entitled again.
