A local dealer offered me 3 one ounce silver art bars today for $16 each, cash (no tax). Would you have bought the 3 at this price?

Yes, $16 is a nice deal. It would be even better if the bars are from a widely recognized mint (Englehard, Sunshine etc)

Seems to me that if one is buying 999 fine silver to hold as a hedge against the possiblity of the dollar being devalued, that's a good deal. (assuming, of course, you trust the dealer and are sure that the bars are 999 fine)

good hunting!

The main reason I didn't buy the bars was because they did not have maker's marks on them.

That stinks. At least next time you will know to jump on a deal like that.

Yeah, if the bars had maker's marks stamped on them, I would have bought them to begin with...Oh well, at least silver is coming down in price. Perhaps it will drop under the $16 mark soon.

Yes, buy more silver while you can, because it's not going to stay this low forever.

As long as its marked .999 fine silver and 1 troy ounce than I would not hesitate to have gotten them.

You don't have to rub it in as I am already kicking myself for not buying the silver. I did however by a 64 half, a 1944 quarter, and a 64 dime off of him for $10 cash.

We all miss opportunities but that makes us wiser and more alert for the next deal to come by. I do wish I had never stopped actively seeking coins/silver coins so many years ago. I am making up for lost time and have increased the family collection from 1970 some 25 fold in just a year. Not an exageration. It's how I'm wired.
Not ready? No gettie.....
