What is the rate at the bank machines (self serve variety)...I assume it is better than the Coinstar 600/minute which would be $360/hr?

Anyone have a range??

TIA

If you are lucky enough to come across a DeLarue 2009 model, it will count as fast as you can dump.

You don't really believe that 600/minute claim by Coinstar, do you?

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

All of my dump banks have Cummins Jetsort machines. I can put $1000 in halves through in about 5 mins. $1000 in dimes is about 2-3. Pennies are about $30-35 a minute. I spend more time waiting for them to change the bags than I do waiting to pour more coins into the machine.

i have never found a bank counter that did not short me on halves.

on the other hand, when i buy bags of pennies they often come with several free dimes.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

My experience is most counters do lose a couple of halves, but I have a couple I can use that almost never miss. I'll have to look to see what kind they are.

I have never lost a half to the cummins machines. I may loose 1 dime out of $1000 as a cent, especially if it is bent and presents a profile much thicker than a normal dime. I am very careful to NEVER mix denominations.

The TCF's in my area use Scan Coin CDS 602 counters. The manufacturer claims they count 800 coins/min.

These machines and dimes do not mix. They like to count dimes as pennies. They are also prone to having dimes hang up inside of them. Then when somebody comes in later the dimes come loose and get counted. I have gotten dimes counted in my penny and nickel dumps quite a few times.

I have stopped using them for dimes about a year ago. So far I have had no problem with being shorted with the other denominations.

They do accept Canadian Zn and CuNi, along with most other plated Zn coins from the Carribean. But will reject a Canadian Cu.

TD bank has the Penny Arcade machine, a holdover of when they absorbed Commerce Bank. But I don't believe they have any branches outside of the northeast US...

The other day I went to a bank I had not been to before. They have a lobby machine.

I asked for a bag of pennies, the teller said, how many do you want? That was the 1st time that has happened. I got two bags.

After sorting, there were 23 dimes, 1 Canadian 1987 dime, and two mangled quarters.

I'll be going back to that bank again soon.

I dropped in 1195 half dollars and over 18000 cents plus they had to change bags and I deposited my tickets all in less than 25 minutes. I think at one time I did 2700 cents in a minute 20 seconds. Of course the lady wouldn't let me pull the silver stripped coins from the half dollar bag that she removed from the machine, I could see three at the very bottom of the bag.:-(

Key to not missing halves on "lower end" counting machines is to dump them in a handfull of time. Most of the machines that miscount have a sensor that "counts" the coin right before it falls into the bag. Since the halves are a lot bigger than the other coins the sensor sometimes misses a half when 2 halves go in basically touching each other.

only one bank in my area has counters. the cummings are the fastest i have seen. the slowest is what appears to be a belt driven machine. the bank here has 6 branches and there is an assortment of different counters in each branch. the fastest cummings machine i have seen is hard to load halves into. it has holes in the top that are exactly the size of a kennedy half and you have to kind of shift the coins back and forth to get them to drop down in the hopper to be counted.

My CU got in a new Cummins sorter....so to check it out I dropped premeasured in grams two batches of Zn cents 1500 grs = 600 cents...right on...the second batch was 13000 grs = 5200 cents...it counted 5196 with one parking lot penny not acceptable...so off by 3 cents....I am of the belief that is acceptable on both sides. And by the way it counted under 3 minutes including printing the receipt. Now ready for a big dump.

EDIT: found a cent in the box yesterday so it was only off by two cents.

It takes about 20 minutes for me to dump a $50 bag. I wish I could find a faster machine. I am hoping to get a decent counter soon and then begin dumping bags. I could sort a lot more if I could dump bags. I have several banks that would take them from me.

putting the family to work...! I think it's okay. I know Ponce will think its fine as long as they are willing to do it or get paid for their service. I've asked my family for help with pick-ups and dumps if i was really in a bind, but not because i was trying to avoid being there too often.

If you feel this way, just make an account at another bank so you can reduce the returns to any one location. (i often dread going into certain banks for return days).

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

I gave a bucket to my wife...told she could use the proceeds for groceries..she won't do that again...first she could barely lift the bucket...second coinstar was to slow for her...Imagine that a slow coinstar....I got a big chuckle..when she left but it quickly went away when she got home.
