Rawles hit the nail on the head:

quote: Mr. Rawles, I am not sure if you can help me, however I was not sure who else I might be able to turn to for advice. I have always been a "prepared" type person, that stems from growing up relatively poor and living/working on a cattle ranch in southern Arizona, for a good portion of my life. We had to be prepared, living so far away from town! My wife and I were married almost three years ago, and currently live in southern Idaho. Being quite a few years my junior, eleven to be exact, she grew up with a considerably different lifestyle than I, and in a different era. I have tried to explain the possibilities to her, be it natural or man made, as to why I am storing food, ammo, medical supplies, et cetera. Unfortunately, even with the current events, she seems to think these things can never happen, and it is not worth the time and money spent.
I'm not a kook, or a tinfoil hat type person, just someone trying to provide for my wife and son in a rough future should it come to that. How do I explain that to my wife, or do I continue to secretly store things away when I have the chance? Please, any advice is very welcome and appreciated.
Thank you for listening, Cameron
JWR Replies: I have just one word for your wife: Haiti.

Let me tell you after Haiti my 77 year old parents bought themselves a tent to live in. They already have food in place in the backyard storage. |

A tent only works in the southern part of the country. If I can't live in my house I'm screwed it is too cold to live outside here about 8 months out of the year. |

They have snow tents and tent-like 4 season shelters that can be used during the winter, in most places. They even have ones with woodstoves as part of them. |

there is a recently published book called suburban survivalist guide that has a pretty good explanation of why one should prep. there is not a lot of revolutionary info in this book but its well organized, logical, thorough, etc.
am thinking about getting a bunch of them and sending them anonymously to everyone on my street.
