I was dumping at a branch of one of my dump banks and I decided to ask and see if they had any Halves. The teller pulled out the $4.50 in halves he had. His next statement stunned me for a second. "None of them are silver, if that's what you're asking for." I guess tellers are realizing about the silver content in even the 40% ones. Do any of your bank tellers inform you that none of their coins are silver?

At my dump bank the tellers do know what silver is so that is one of the reason it's my dump bank. |

One bank did, but took the bag anyways it had 13 40's and a 90 then 2nd time nada. I will probably try one more time in the future, but only as a serious back up. |

I know tellers who know and who don't.
Some know and will hand it to me when asked.
I know not to expect any to hold it and they won't.
When cherry picking a tray which I can see from 6 feet easy, I'll ask for all their change of the denomination where I spot silver. Occasionally I may ask for the "shiny one" and have gotten answers like "oh, the silver one" as they hand it over.
I have even gotten silver dollars from tellers trays. Just gotta be there.
I do have accounts at 7 local banks and am familiar with many of their branches. My dump bank has nine branches nearby.
Always looking for a new bank with different coin service.
I only like one of the three coin services from my supply banks.
I think the other two clean silver from coins as well as short the rolls. Every once in the while dufus will roll the coins though instead of the boss and I will find silver.
Brute force volume.
Happy hunting! 0CD

Yes, I think we've all heard from a teller that these have been "searched" and there is no silver. As long as its not like a re-wrapped brinks box, buy them anyways. I've still found 40%ers in these so called rejects. Of course, they could just as well be right and you find nothing too. You really never know until you get to searching.
One thing though, STOP ASKING FOR COIN AT A DUMP BANK! That's the surest way to end any benefits from a bank. Someone else said it best; never take a dump where you sit down to eat. |

Ya - buy pennies and dump halves then dump halves and buy pennies. I've been told there was no silver in rolls but buy anyway and get silver. I just ignore what a lot of people say until I confirm it for myself - makes for a more profitable life. |

If they have black X's on the rolls, I move on. I have had some banks that had rolls with X's and some rolls with no X's. I just buy them all. I have had tellers tell me that they pull all the silver. I will usually just pass. There are too many banks were I go searching to buy someone elses dumps.

I went ahead and bought the halves anyway to check for myself, but they were all the regular non-silver ones. |

I actually had a teller ask me if I wanted the "silver" coins he had in his tray. He said he had a couple of halves and a silver dollar. So I said sure. Turned out to be 2 40% halves and an Ike dollar. But hey I got the 40%ers for 50 cents each and the Ike for a buck so I was happy. |

I've also had one teller at a Wells Fargo tell me that she had some silver ones in particular that I could buy. |

it depends on the branch alot too, like at scotiabank they have Really begun pushing their precoius metals division and even have an estore for it now (ripoff). but the fact remains some banks dont even consider investments and the tellers have no idea what metals are doing. my mother works at the scotiabank in town and almost all of the older ladies working the tills have silver investments through their rrsp's and what not. they all know me when i come in and they scan their tills for silver, where as i go to royal bank or somthing, and its just hilarious.... 19 year old tellers looking completing dumbfounded when i ask if they have a precious metals division, then getting a personal banking officer or manager or somthing, and having them look at you the exact same way
small town in canada tho, easier to notice little things when not much is going on |
