I am new to the forum and must say this is great. I saw the post on halves, what do you look for in quartes besides the 1964s and below?

I think quarters are the hardest SILVER to find. Occasionally, you can find 90% SILVER halves 1992 onwards, but the quarters are very scarce to find in the wild.
After 1964, from 1992 onwards, 90% SILVERs were minted in proof sets (San Francisco mint mark), including the state quarters. In 1976, 40% SILVER quarters were minted. Proof quarters were minted in clad and 90% SILVER from 1992 onwards. Proof quarters were minted in clad and 40% SILVER in 1976.
Some folks make up sets of the clad state quarters. |

Welcome to the forum. Hope you continue enjoying this great hobby.
This year, 2010, the first year of the new quarter series will be released and that is the National Park series. I can't wait to see these, myself. |

Wisconsin quarters with the extra leaf on the corn ear. That's all I look for, because that's all I can remember. |

There were no mint sets in 82 or 83, thus the premium, this goes for all demonination in these yrs. MS only though. |

I think the silver ones are the best things to look for, but I doubt you will ever find any. |

little statistics for ya if anyones hunting canadian change
700$ / 2800 quarters searched - 5 80%s 63, 64, x2 65s and a 67
$300 / 3000 dimes, - nothin
150$ worrth of nickels, 3000 coins - nothin
my first real decent capacity search for silver so, whats that saying? lol
think ill go sort more
thing is silver dimes look different, the last few years of silver canadian quarters look like those minted up until today, even the reverse with the young queen continued until late 70s, probably impossible to distinguish unless u were looking for it, or knew the sound of a single silver coin in a pocket full of steel. so maybe the masses just notice the silver dimes first. so far i have had very good luck with quarters tho
edit: hand picked each roll in my little experiment from the bank, picked out all the old lookin wrappers not one machine wrapped roll |

Thank you for sharing the Canadian statistics with us, feirefiz! It wouldn't help me in the southern US, but I'm sure it will be beneficial to the North Dakotans here and other northerners. |
