Hello all,
Basically I am completely new to the scrap metal game. I would like to become an avid scrapper, but quite franklly i do not know where to begin. Of course i would like my first few ventures to cost me little money, I have time and transportation. I am a junior in high school so keep that in mind with any suggestions. I was thinking about starting with aluminum cans that i could collect. Any suggestions with other methods? Or the best way to go about collecting aluminum cans?
Thanks, Stay stong.

You can scrap just about anything metal you come across. Save all scrap wire, extension cords, electrical cord. They take little room and bring pretty good money. Electric motors, from fans, vacume cleaners, pumps, alternators they're good to.
There are some aluminum things you may not have thought of, Cast aluminun BBQ's lawn furnature etc. Just keep your eyes open.
Look at the "what did you scrap this week" thread to get some ideas. Also stainless steel(that won't stick to a magnet) pays pretty good Good luck! |

| Make sure you are aware of the scrap metal laws where you live. Call around to different yards to get the best price and ask questions. Good Luck! |

| Just starting off get yourself some "must-have" tools, such as a pair of vise-grips, wire strippers, a 3lb. hammer, phillips and slotted screwdrivers, a good pry bar/wrecking bar, and a pair of 24in. or 36in. bolt cutters. With these tools you can do just about anything :) |

| Welcome to the forum, lilscrapper. Check the teachers lounge at your school to see if they are recycling cans. If not, ask if you could put a trash can or a box in the lounge. Also, have your friends and family save cans for you. Good luck. |

Welcome aboard Lilscrapper.
May want to invest in some 5 gallon buckets to store your sorted metals in.
If your transportation involves a bicycle, may want to get a store bought "milk crate" and attach it to your bike for metal hunting.. Had 1 rigged with bungee cords on mine when I was your age. |
