I finally recieved my "Liberty Dollar" one ounce copper coins.
They look nice, and they feel substantial.
FYI:
I bought 100 Avoirdupois Ounce Coins. This cost me $100 plus $24 for shipping, no tax.
So, I'm out $1.24 FRN for each "$1" Liberty copper coin.
The melt value of these are currently about $0.225 or 22 qand one half cents each.
$3.60 per pound / 16 = 0.0225
0.0225 / 1.24 = 0.181451612903
So I overpaid by 551% if you are comparing to melt value only.
It cost them something to manufacture these and to fight their legal battles.
My 124 dollar investment in 18 dollars worth of melt value copper goes to support their efforts. I don't feel like I gave them 100 dollars. They offered a product at a priced and I willingly bought it.

"Support their efforts" That's rich Me2 . What "efforts" is that, to rip-off people like you? How very noble of them. They take your "worthless FRNs and give you a fraction of the bullion value it would buy You got good copper (pennies) for the taking at face value and you wasted you money like that...............? Like they say, one born ever minute.
Sorry friend, just telling it like I see it. |

Your true colors are shining through.
I report, that I am okay with a transaction and describe the details so that you will be better informed. Your response is to call me a sucker.
You are a mean person.

| It would have been nicer if they had sold them closer to melt. On the other hand this isn't in the hoarding copper bullion forum, but the numismatic forum. This all makes me think that Me2 bought them for the novalty rather than bullion. He didn't get ripped off, compared to melt, as much as people that buy collectable dollar coins. Also the melt price of copper pennies used to be about half a cent not too long ago. So if the price goes up again by a factor of 4 then they will each be worth about a dollar. |

Liberty dollars are not numismatic coins by their own standards. Liberty dollars considers their products to be "money".
So you are saying that if the price of copper goes up by 4 then Me2 might break even? What a deal!
Me2, you might think that I'm "mean" but I would never had ripped-off someone like they did to you. If you realize it or not. Like I said, sorry if the truth hurts, but you put this topic out for public discussion.... not me. |

If I'm not wrong ME2's point was that he was not looking at buying the liberty dollars as an investment. I buy copper jewlery but not for an investment. I buy it just because I like it.
I wouldn't buy liberty dollars, either silver or copper as a bullion investment. But I don't give investment advice because these forums are for entertainment only.

I am glad to see this discussion.
I have followed the Liberty Dollar for a few years. I too bought some Liberty Coppers. I like the image on the Liberty Dollars and the idea that someone is trying to keep honest value behind some form of currency. I have ordered a few of the Ron Paul Dollars too.
When I received them I sat down and realized that they have less copper in them than the IKE Dollars. At my local coin store I can get a roll, twenty, IKE Dollars for twenty five dollars. So if I just wanted a coin with the copper the price is the same for IKE or Liberty dollars.
There is a lot of controversy and legal concerns about ever using a liberty dollar. I keep them for me. I do not agree with the Liberty Dollar slogan that the Liberty Dollar is inflation proof. Remember the original inflation was to say that a coin is worth more this year than last, part of the plan for the Liberty Dollar.
All in all I am glad that I exchanged for some.

Your're right Cody they aren't "inflation proof", since as the price of a silver ounce increased from 7-8 dollars to above 10, they then doubled the "value" of the liberty dollar to 20. Just like the government who likes nice round numbers and ratios for things.
Does the 10 dollar one then become worth the same as a half ounce in the eyes of the liberty dollar people? Of course the system was designed to be a "free barter system", so it wouldn't really matter.
It does seem that the people that use it act as if it is worth twenty dollars instead of treating it as a troy ounce of silver. If someone wanted to pay me with them, I would agree, but only for spot + $1 or something for manufactoring costs. |

I just bought 100 more Liberty Coppers. With shipping, they cost me $1.30
These "dollars" say the word PEACE in big bold letters.

I have not yet ordered any, but I like the idea of getting more copper that says dollars.

Hello All! I've been a lurker for a week or so now. Interesting board here, as I've been thinking about saving pennies for their copper for some time now.
Well, apparently, Liberty Dollar's offices were raided by the FBI and all pending orders are basically in limbo and may not be filled. I'm bummed because I ordered 10 copper Peace dollars about 3 weeks ago, just as a collectible, no intention of ever trying to spend them. Anyway, something smells fishy to me. I received this email at 9:22 AM, and they claim the FBI raided them at 8:00 AM this morning. Then he says they were there for 6 hours gathering computers, files, etc. The times don't match. Now they want me to fill out a form to join in on a class action lawsuit. I'm not getting involved as I may only be out the $10 I spent to order the Peace coppers. Again, something smells fishy. Here's the email below. Just wanted to let you other folks who may have ordered from them to know, if you don't already.
Dear Liberty Dollar Supporters:
I sincerely regret to inform you that about 8:00 this morning a dozen FBI and Secret Service agents raided the Liberty Dollar office in Evansville.
For approximately six hours they took all the gold, all the silver, all the platinum and almost two tons of Ron Paul Dollars that where just delivered last Friday. They also took all the files, all the computers and froze our bank accounts.
We have no money. We have no products. We have no records to even know what was ordered or what you are owed. We have nothing but the will to push forward and overcome this massive assault on our liberty and our right to have real money as defined by the US Constitution. We should not to be defrauded by the fake government money.
But to make matters worse, all the gold and silver that backs up the paper certificates and digital currency held in the vault at Sunshine Mint has also been confiscated. Even the dies for mint the Gold and Silver Libertys have been taken.
This in spite of the fact that Edmond C. Moy, the Director of the Mint, acknowledged in a letter to a US Senator that the paper certificates did not violate Section 486 and were not illegal. But the FBI and Services took all the paper currency too.
The possibility of such action was the reason the Liberty Dollar was designed so that the vast majority of the money was in specie form and in the people’s hands. Of the $20 million Liberty Dollars, only about a million is in paper or digital form.
I regret that if you are due an order. It may be some time until it will be filled... if ever... it now all depends on our actions.
Everyone who has an unfulfilled order or has digital or paper currency should band together for a class action suit and demand redemption. We cannot allow the government to steal our money! Please don’t let this happen!!! Many of you read the articles quoting the government and Federal Reserve officials that the Liberty Dollar was legal. You did nothing wrong. You are legally entitled to your property. Let us use this terrible act to band together and further our goal – to return America to a value based currency.
Please forward this important Alert... so everyone who possess or use the Liberty Dollar is aware of the situation.
Please click HERE to sign up for the class action lawsuit and get your property back!

Thanks again for your support at this darkest time as the damn government and their dollar sinks to a new low.

I agree that this is a very odd turn of events.
For the record, I do Not trust Von NotHaus and his Organization,
and more importantly,
I DO NOT TRUST THE FBI.
Time will tell which of them is lying more.
My intital reaction is that they Are BOTH LYING.

Here is an article by a local newspaper about the "raid", but it looks like the reporter didn't come up with any confirmation of the story either. So the article is based solely on Von NotHaus's account.

I have $100 FRN order outstanding with NorFed.
I want them to keep my money and use it to fight their legal battles.
If I give $100 to the Sierra Club or the United Way, or Greenpeace, I expect them to use that money to fight the good fight.
I regret that I have but one hundred dollars to give to the cause of Liberty!

If I was in the same boat, I would file a claim in your local small claims court against the FBI for $100. Make the Feds waste time having to show up for a dinky case. At most it would cost you about $35 for the filing fee and 4-5 hours of your time. It might also clear up some of the mystery surrounding this case. |

me2: Would you be willing to sell me a few of your Liberty coppers? I would prefer the Ron Paul coppers, but the PEACE coppers are fine. I do not want them in order to re-sell. I want them as a reminder that our government can easily abuse its powers, and that vigilance is required of citizens to keep their elected officials in check.

I don't know if you read Don's Column in Colorado, but I really liked his take on the Liberty Dollar. Not that I agree but he was most articulate.

| I just got "alert #4" in my email today about the Liberty Dollar fiasco. Now they're trying to sell "arrest dollars." Strange that the FBI grabbed EVERYTHING, computers, oustanding orders, records, etc., yet the Liberty Dollar people still have my email address to solicit more business! How convenient! If they have my email address, then they certainly know what I ordered (only 10 coppers for $10). I'm not signing any class action lawsuit or doing anything to help them, since they are obviously trying to skate out of this on the backs of their customers. Again, I just wanted some cheap coppers as a collector's piece, no way was I going to try to use them as money. I'm not going to do anything to help out those bozos. They're obviously not coming clean with the whole outstanding order business. I know some people who may have bought silver or gold are out many hundreds of dollars and I sympathize with them, but for me, I'm cutting my $10 loss and not looking back. |

| Agreed, I have a small loss, but I am going to sit back and watch this play out. Although, it does show just how controlling UNCLE Adolf is getting. |
