Believe it or not, I found a 1943 Steel penny not in a CWR, but a Fed Roll! I could not believe that because you'd think that the Feds would have caught it by machine as a reject. It's in a surprisingly nice condition, and it's the first one I've ever found in a roll of pennies.

Congrats on finding your first steelie kirkland! Those are tough to find.
I am curious about what a FED roll is. Does the FED actually roll coins? I thought they shipped them out in bulk to coin processors and that that was where all the rolling and boxing occured. If I load up a 1000 foot roll of N.F. String & Son paper on one of my machines and start rolling up pennies.. would they be "FED rolls?" |

Thanks, even though I am sure you have found many more steel pennies than me. I can't give you a very good description of a ''Fed Roll'', but you can tell if it is one if it is white or cardboard color, and is sealed tight to the contents. |

| You'll find one eventually. It took me two years to find my first one, and who knows how long it will be before I will find the second. |

I never found a steelie in a roll, but I've got almost 3 rolls pulled from reject trays. Congratulations finding one in a roll. |

I haven't found that many.. probably more Indians than steels. That description is what I have heard referred to as a "Fed Roll" but I refer to as BWR (Bank wrapped roll), though technically it is not a bank wrapped roll either because it is actually rolled by a coin processor such as CWI rather than the bank. I have the generic white paper too, and could "Roll my own" I don't have the generic tan paper, but I'm sure I could find some for sale out there if I really looked. |

Just my two cents! |

Congrats. They will pop up every now and then, I got 12 wheat's and three steels in one Brinks roll this last week. Never found that many in one Fed Roll, but I guess it was my lucky box. I'm still waiting on my wild Indian find.

As long as you guys aren't in Texas.. there is a possibility of finding a wild Indian. But don't wait for it.. go get it. To quote the guy featured on most of our copper pennies, all our steel pennies, and all our zinc pennies.. "Good things come to those who wait.. but only those things left by those who hustle." |
