I've been lurking for a while here. I bought a Rydale a few weeks ago and have started a website for the Idaho Copper Cache at You must be logged in to see this link.

Locally I've been harvesting 20-25% from bags and boxes. My own bank's main branch will take my dumps. For buying, some other local banks have bags, most have boxes.

After sorting, I weigh out 1540 grams (up to 1542g) for 500 to 501 count of penny. I put 500 in a ziplock baggie and jam 5 baggies into a $25 roll box. This way the box can never be confused with pre-sort, or all Zn boxes/rolls.

Cheers!
Greg

Great! I'm new here too, IdahoCopper, but like you, I've been collecting for quite some time now.

When I was first packing 500 bags, I used a vac-sealer for freezer bagging. That was looking good until after a couple weeks, the bags didn't seem to be sealed any more, but seemed to be filling with gas. Maybe the pennies were out-gassing something?

Welcome to the forum, newbies Interesting concept on your website, to offer sorting for others with your Ryedale. If your fee is reasonable enough, you might get some takers. Maybe offer them to sort at 1.1 face value for the coppers retrieved, but let them pay you with their zincs at a five percent discount ($95 credit for $100 of zinc). Saves them a bit on Coinstar and the trouble of returns, you recoup a bit more. In total, you'd be making fifteen percent, not bad for just running them through your sorter.

Hoard now and hold on!

on second thought, after thinking about it a bit... you might want to charge 1.35 per sorted coppers. If you go too cheap, others will only use you to process their cents, and you wouldn't ever have time to sort your own. Total cost of 1.5 to buyers for "sortin' their own" would still be tempting enough to induce takers IMHO

Welcome guys. Glad to have you.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

1.5 to buyers, hmmm... but it doesn't include the original cost of the penny of the customer who saved them. So its actually 2.5 cost to customer. A bit steep.

When I say 1.5 to buyers it's total cost. Your cut would be .5, if you chose to let them pay with zincs
