I've been looking for .999 silver bullion on E bay and have noticed quite a few auctions selling 1 gram silver coins. Here is a good example:

As of this minute, the coin is selling for $1.26. I believe that would be around $40 per ounce. This seems like an attempt to scam the few people who don't know the difference between a gram and an ounce. Anyway, this auction makes me feel much better about spending $26 on an Australian 1 ounce (not gram!) Kookaburra coin at a coin show last weekend.

This looks better than a few others I have seen, at least this one has some design on it which may make it appealing to some collectors for more than just the silver value. The auctions that really get me are the ones that sell gold by the grain. They will sell "1 gr" many people buy thinking gr=gram.

I think it'd be worth the buck with free shipping. Heck they are hardly breaking even for fees and time. I think they're neat looking. I've spent a lot more on coins because they were neat looking!

There is at least one seller on ebay who is selling 1 gram silver rounds that are copies of Cdn ML's. Going through his feedback, he/she snagged quite a few stupid buyers who weren't paying attention and thought they were getting a genuine 1 oz coin for cheap.

The product is certainly not a scam. The way some sellers represent the product is questionable, and sometimes downright deceptive, as in the "gr = grain" cases.

I sell a number of 1 gram silver coins and bars on my website (not on eBay), but there is no question about the weight...it is very clear that they are 1 gram. I actually sell the rounds shown in the first link and just got some of the rounds shown in the second link...they are both nice little rounds in my opinion.

You can buy 90% on ebay for at or below spot these days. Why bother with these things?

The one guy on Ebay was selling the gram coins for $4.00 each. I can't think of any justification for selling silver at over $120 an ounce.

Hi there-

I second that. Buy a coin or bar that has some dignity, people! If you're really worried about having smaller denominations of silver, get dimes!
Also shaking my head over "1/2 gram" gold bars. Don't sneeze too hard or it's gone!
My unsolicited opinion- People will always have money or goods to trade with. Save up and buy standard-sized coins. Lower premiums and better availability.

I'd stay away from the 1 gram stuff. Too much premium.

I have 3 1 gram maple leaf rounds. I bought them for novelty. They are pretty cool and best of all don't have the queen on the other side.

How bout a 1875 Draped Bust Dollar, I'd justify buying that for $120 an oz :)
