Udated with pic of inside 1-14-10

Hey all. I was cashing in some halves and one kept getting rejected. I sent it through the counter at least 10 times.
I usually make the teller take my reject but I forgot with this one.
I got to looking at the coin and noticed that it feels lighter. According to my scale it is 10.5g (clad halves weigh 11.2g).
I also noticed that the obverse and reverse don't line up. The reverse is rotated. You might notice the line on the rim.

I think the thing is hollow. I can't figure out how to get the pieces apart. Any suggestions?
I wonder if this is a novelty item or what. Tell me what you think.

Thanks

Here is the pic of inside - you guys were correct! You guys know everything. I'm still basking in the glow of my major Ag score.

Still waiting to find my first one. Figure with the $105K in halves I am going to do this year, I am bound to find one.

>I can't figure out how to get the pieces apart. Any suggestions?<

Drop the reverse side down on a wooden cutting board at a very slight angle.
After the 3rd or 4th time it should show a little of the machined edge above the cut line, then pry it apart with a plastic fork or spoon.
At least that's how I got the 2 I've found apart.

PS - I bet you find 1/2 of a Cu Mexican coin looking at you once you get it open.

if you have a torch or somthing try heating one side of the coin or just around the rim. may expand enough to slide open easily.
might try soaking the coin then heating it throughout, moisture inside will expand and should pop it open if its a relatively tight seal

These are neat. I found an empty one, without the copper coin, last year.

The one I had opened up easily. Perhaps this one was bent slightly.
I'm thinking that edge sorters would never find this one - as AmalekiDad didn't notice it until it was rejected at the coin counter.

I have several of those. Try putting it into a plastic milk bottle and shaking the crap out of it.
