armored car's change service to have coins delivered to your house?

I'm thinking of trying to see if they will deliver large orders of pennies and halves to search through.

Lemme know how your armored car deal goes. I'm paranoid, but mainly of the government and people who follow me for long distances on the highway, lol. Anyone else i'm armed to take care of.

I remember reading somewhere (maybe here) that somebody actually went to a coin distribution center to buy halves. I can't remember what the fee was, but yes there was a fee.

I am sure you can get delivery if you want. The big question is how much are you going to get charged?

It depends on the bank. The bankers look at it as a cost of overall customer satisfaction. They consider whether it is an occasional thing or several times per week. How long are you tying up the teller and making other customers wait. If they are making money off you in other ways they don't have to nickel and dime you for getting you a few boxes of coin. I regularly get shipments of 24 boxes of pennies at a time from more than one of my banks without any fees. They seem to be more receptive to getting coins for you than they are about taking back huge piles of them after you have pulled out all the good ones.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more.

I think it is possible to get them to deliver for a price. Usually they will want to set up a longer term contract for regular delivery. So if you were to do it you would want to get a large enough shipment on each delivery to make the convenience worth the fee. MaDeuce used to have pallets of Canadian nickels delivered to his business when he was doing some serious sorting.

I called a local armored car company this past summer and asked if they had any "big dollars" They had a bag and a half.($1400) I could come any time and pick them up for a $5 fee per bag. I took the gamble and bought all. Some nice keepers but no silver. Sold a few rolls on ebay, so just about broke even.

Cyberdan,

Did the armoured car company say you could "buy
" other coinage by bag directly from them?

Yes, I could "buy" anything I wanted, at $5 per box/bag but I declined. I have one bank that will get me 2 boxes of halves per month from them and they will absorb the fees (or they have a flat fee contract with them that covers everything) They could not get the big dollars for some reason.

I do not like their boxes of halves. So far every box is 100% 2001 P & D all uncirculated. No market for them here.
