Here is a batch of MIXED pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters in a 5 gallon poland spring jug I found on craigslist. Looks like a lot of quarters in there from the picture. If it was ALL pennies, face value would be around $300 based on other jugs I bought.
I want to know what you guys would offer to buy this jug before I mention the asking price.

| Was there a story behind it like they don't have time to take it to coinstar or don't want to pay coinstar fees? I've never seen an ad like that on my local Craigslist. |

Do you get to keep the jar too so you could return it for its deposit after you removed the coins from it?
HOw do you know there isn't something else stuffed in the middle to take up space that isn't coins?
I would be very concerned if it were me and don't think I could ever buy something like that.

Penny Saved - There was no story behind it in the ad, I emailed the person, even offering MORE than the asking price (no specific number, just more than they are asking) so I hope to hear back from the person.
PTP - Most likely I would use the jug to transport the coins to my house. Then return it for a deposit, unless the seller wanted to keep it then I would dump out the coins into smaller containers to make it more manageable. I don't care either way. I would also inspect the jug to make sure it wasn't filled with anything but coins before handing off any cash, and of course I would be concerned with overpaying, but that should not be a problem based on the asking price. |

Interesting maybe they are just being lazy and don't want to fool with it I guess
Only time I bought coins like this was when someone sold me a bucket full of wheat pennies. Of course, I took my own containers so I could give them a quick inspection as I was dumping them into my container. |

$300 FV if just pennies is a good guess.
i brew my own beer and a glass bottle like that is worth abotu $40.
its hard to tell how much silver is there from the pic.
$300.00 is 30,000 coins. if you assume 5% are silver, and the average of say a nickel and dime (assume few quarters) is 6.5 cents more than the value of a penny, then 3000 times .065 is another $97.50.
or, say 10% are nickels, but no dimes or quarters, then its an additional $120.
but what i really want to know is how you find these - what do you search for on craigslist? Do you place an ad? |
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X

Cool site! Is the jar glass or plastic? It will take a LONG time to get them out. I had two of these, one full and one nearly full, of just cents, and it was over $500. I had been saving them for years and cashed them in for my honeymoon. :) Yes, this was before I sorted for copper, so there was copper in it, but.................... heh heh... it was worth it. Anyway, I ended up cutting a large hole in the tapered edge of the full bottle in order to get them out. The other one, since it wasn't full, was a little bit easier to empty out, but still very temperamental. |

Its more than a guess, its based on actual counts out of penny filled 5 gallon jugs just like this one i've gotten in the past

I agree that its hard to estimate the number of nickels, quarters and dimes, but it looks like more than 5%, probably closer to 25% based only on the picture. I see a lot of clad along the walls of the jug, never mind whats in the middle.

I don't place ads anymore, I used to but got tons of spam. I now run a search agent on my iphone through an App called CraigsPro+. It runs searches in the background even when i'm closed out of the app and notifies me when new posts are made that match my search criteria. This particular search is "Pennies" in the "for sale/Collectibles" catagory. I have other similar searches running 24/7 with silver/copper/gold as the criteria. Good deals go wicked fast on craigslist.
Also, the jug looks like its plastic.
If I do get this jug, I will run a "Guess the Face Value" contest for you guys with a nice silver prize |

Yes, that was me who found two 5 gallon jugs full of pennies about 6 months ago, right around 350 lbs, paid $480 for $600 face. I also found 250 lbs of mixed cents shortly after that but that deal fell through. My phone searches craigslist for me 24/7 if you see the post above. Finding these types of deals are really few and far between and need to get jumped on the same day they are posted. I haven't heard back yet from the seller, but i'm crossing my fingers. |

| if you figure 300*100 coins, and every 100 coins a third clad, consisting of 3 quarters, 5 dimes, and 25 nickels, that is an extra $2.17 per 100 which times 300 is another $651 on top of the $300 for all pennies. So if this was a guy saving coins from his pocket change, which is mostly clad, without the intent of ever selling to a stranger, then it easily could have $1000 in coin. |

Well the ad said $40 was the asking price, so in my email I first asked if this was the correct asking price, then went on the say I am very interested in your jug o' change and to confirm the price and that I would be willing pay way more than the current amount indicated. I didn't make an "official" exact dollar amount offer yet because I want to know what they really want for it first. I have not recieved a reply yet. I imagine the person might've been slammed with emails because of $40 price in the listing. |

| Any more info? Did they contact you back? As you know even if it was $400.00 you have to go for it! You will make more that that in face value! |

| Nothing new to report, I even emailed the seller again today that I am EXTREMELY interested in the jug and again offered more than the asking price. I even mentioned I would entertain some sort of bidding option if there are other people offering more. I am not getting a reply at all. The listing is still up so its not like someone else grabbed it and they took down the listing. Things are not looking good at the moment but I am keeping my hopes up. I'm prepared to offer a max of $500 over email, and maybe more only after I inspect the jug in person. There could be upwards of 2 grand in there. I forgot to mention before that there is even paper bills in the jug. |
