Since 99% of my sorting is from customer wrapped rolls it is very infrequent that I ever get 5000 pennies exactly in a $50 dollar bag of pennies. I started tracking the total face value of coin in each bag and over 90% of the time the face value was over $50 due to the regular dime or a customer stuffing the wrapper with extra pennies.
I am now thinking of tracking the "sort value" of each bag.
My initial thoughts are that this would be the face value of coin plus any additional melt value(2cents total for each copper) + any additional numismatic value for wheats and george VI(4cents each), rock dove(3cents), indians(dollar each??), George V(15 cents each??) etc.
What do you think are fair values for : coppers? shiny coppers? Wheats? any difference in value by decade? George VI? Rock Doves? George V? Indian heads?
For some reason this hobby makes more sense to me when I see myself coming out even a few cents ahead on each bag due to the dimes and extras.

George VI ==> 5 cents for 1945-52, 10 cents for 1938-44 and 25 cents for 1937 George V ==> $25 for 1923 & 25, $15 for 1922, $5 for 1924 & 26, $2.50 for 1927 & 30, $1.00 for 1931 and 25 cents for everything else. 1967 Doves ==> worth melt value only of 2 cents, you don't see too many in circulation, but many were minted (345 million) Values for the Georges are minimum values for coins in good or VG condition. |

| I look at finding something different as icing on the cake. That the difference between a good day and a great day. |

| For some reason the fellow in the coin room who provides me with bags, stresses that the gross weight of the bag is 32 pounds. They do have a counter, but for some reason rely on weight. They ship what I do not take to the Fed Reserve. |
