Hi all,
Hope everyone has a happy - blessed New Year!
My wife and I pick up rolls from a variety banks in the area. We have also, once in awhile, gotten a box, but very seldom, because we 'hand sort'.
I have received basically three kinds of wrapped rolls: (1) Standard red and white with an address for a company out east, I think, called "Springer". (2) Same kind of wrappers except there is no company information on these. (3) Bank Wrapped rolls which come in (usually) brown wrappers.
Over the past couple years or so we've gone through a fair amount of cents though I'm not in the 'Big Leagues' with most of the serious hoarders, probably have 3+ five gallon buckets of them.
Now my question is this.It seems to me that I get a much higher percentage of coppers from "Springer" rolls, than any other types of rolls. I keep some rough estimate figures, and from them I think "Springer" rolls are 30-32% while the others are more 24-27% (or lower). Is there a reason for this, or is it just the 'luck of the draw'. (I get Springer rolls and non-Springer rolls at the same time from some of the banks.
BTW ,,, I don't check too carefully, but both my wife and I 'feel' like we are getting more wheaties from the Springer rolls, as well.
Comments? Help? Information? Thanks!

First.. "Springer rolls" are the exclusive property of Jerry Springer and the Springer household of this forum. The rolls you are speaking of are N.F. String & Son rolls. Very common out east. N.F. String & Son does not roll coin.. they sell the coin rolling supplies. Some folks mistakenly call these Fed rolls. I have several 1000 foot rolls of N.F. String & Son paper I use on my automatic rolling machines to "Roll my own." I also have a few different types of what I call "Generic paper." Each coin processor purchases whatever supplies they need to roll their coin from the various manufacturers or Banking supply companies. It could just be that the processor that is getting the best coins in your geographic area has a preferance for the N.F. String & Son paper. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

My apologies to Jerry Springer ... when you get to be an old codger like me, you'll find that your 'forgetter' works a whole lot better than your 'rememberer'.
Thanks for your answer, HCBTT.
Okay, I'll 'bite' (pun intended) ... what is a 'spring roll' (I know its something to eat We don't do 'Chinese' or 'Thai' very often, though 'Sesame Chicken' sure is good!

A spring roll is kind of like an egg roll.. only smaller and tastier. |
