Early in December my friend(fellow sorter)notified me that she had found a way to dump zinc and make money. Apparently they were running a promotion where coinstar was giving a gift card with a ten dollar bonus for every dump of over $40.00 of coin no service charge. Only catch was the type of gift card was limited to certain retailers. Good deal if you have a shopper in the family. We did a few dumps and passed out gift cards as christmas gifts. This is in New York anyone else hear of or participate in this "deal". P.S. hello to all newcomers and old friends, I haven't been on in a while.
if coinstar would give out walmart cards I would think about using them..

Welcome back wheeler dealer. The promotion was announced on the board by one of our members and several folks took advantage of it. Pretty sure it has expired now.

Welcome back man. Have you told your friend about us?
So the real question is this, where have you been, hehe?

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams
Great to hear from so many fellow collectors. Yes. After an unexpected leave of absence I hope to begin to participate in the forum again regularly. I had to slow my sorting down a little to resolve some legal expenses. Was able to get through without selling my collection. Sorting small amounts regularly. Been blessed by the wheaty gods. Right before Xmas opened two boxes and found nine full rolls of someone elses wheat collection. Percentages are dropping here in the northeast for me. 20% is average. Lots of competition. Banks are claiming penny shortages. Guess I'm buying too many. Don't know how long coinstar promo runs. No big deal for me as I don't generally use the gift cards much anyways. My friend and I are now both sorters and we use different banks which is really helpful for acquisitions although dumping is getting tougher. Carry around boxes of zinc in the car and pay for EVERYTHING I can in zinc.

Where in the northeast are you? I'm 10 miles west of Boston and percentages have been consistantly in the high 20's for me. I know of two other sorters in my area but they are ouside my immediate pick up area. I also ran into another sorter at the bank picking up boxes when I was picking up boxes as well from the same branch, so there is more competition out there compared to a year ago. At least all the bank tellers I deal with are still oblivious to CU penny hoarding.
mikep2020 I am in western NY. I know that some other members who post fairly regularly probably live with in one hour of me and I think I actually buy from one or more of the same banks knibloe buys from. I was out of circulation for a while so maybe I just hit a rough patch since getting back in. I used to buy several hundred per week when available. I am getting ramped back up and hope to start buying that volume again with hopes of improved percentages. I too have had tellers inform me that there are other collectors using some of the same banks. Think I have probably bought a good quantity of their zinc dumps.
