The pre-1980 Canadian cents actually edge out the US ones for copper value. Just a slight amount. The post '79 ones do not have as much copper as the pre'82 US ones. I am using coinflation figures for the comparison. Do any of you bother to dump the post '79 Canadian cents and use the cash to buy more pre'82 US cents? Theoretically, you could edge out the US cents by just holding onto the '79 and earlier Canadian cents and dumping all others. Imagine how much work that would involve?
I don't find many Canadian cents, but all that are dated 1996 or before are saved. As has already been mentioned - "copper is copper" and if it continues its 'general' rise in price, eventually it should not be hard to sell copper (even as 'scrap') for a good profit.
Of course I keep the 1980-1996 Canadian copper pennies. I suppose I could dump the 95% Cu American coins for 98% Cu Canadians but that would just be more work. Anyway, you can sell Canadian Cu coins of all years for a nice premium so why dump them for face?
