I was wondering if anyone of the Canadian members ever picked up any of the copper commemorative medallions as a source of copper bullion?
I've been able to get a few from my local coin shop for fifty cents to a dollar each.
Left to right
1927 Fiftieth Anniversary of Confederation- .365 oz T 98%(?) Cu 1939 Royal visit to Canada- .51 oz T 98%(?) Cu 1953 Queen Elizabeth II Coronation- .57 oz T 98% Cu
The 27 and 39 medallions aren't as plentiful as the 1953 Coronation medallion. So far I've only been able to grab three each of the 27s and 39s(one being silver@$10)
I've had better luck with the 1953 Coronation medallions being newer and of a higher mintage. I've been able to pick up 1 or 2 every time I've checked at the coin shop giving me a total of 21 Coronation medallions.
Just thought I would share one of the forms of Canadian Cu that I've been picking up when I can.
I'd love to hear if anyone else collects these?
Oh and I also pick up the large 1951 commemorative nickel medallions from Sudbury as well
The map of Canada on the 1939 medallion shows the route taken by the royal couple.
I was handed down 2 of the large coronation ones from my grandmother. I guess they are copper, but sounds like you paid over melt for them. I would not scrap them and don't know what purity they are either. Nice to own a little piece of history though.
