Just had a intersting time at the local grocery store. I read on realcent sometime this week about the coinstar bonus. I figured I would take advantage of the $10 bonus when you cash in $40 or more for a gift card and get a $10 GC back in the mail. It is the last day for this offer and I had some dumps waiting for tomorrow,so why not.Great way to do x-mas shopping at home on the computer. So I get a Borders card no problem. So back to the car for more.Next I get a amazon card,I'm talking it up with the clerks waiting for my card to spit out,no card, hmmm.Get the manager to see whats up,and he opens up the machine and picks up the phone in there,he called it the "bat phone",after a bit he says you don't get a card you just use the code on the receipt,ok my bad.So before he closes it up he pulls out the junk tray and goes to dump it in the garbage,I say,"hey wait a second, your just going to throw that away?" I get the crazy look and he says, why you want the coins in there? Why sure I do,my hands are already filthy from the pennies,so I pick out a quarter,2 nicks, and about a dollar in dimes,2 pendants(sorry,no gold) and a 1921 Nederlanden 1 cent, and a 1948 Nederlanden 10 cent.Go back one more time to get a JC Pennys CG So I made $30 in free GC's,over a buck in change which I bought a coffee with,2 old coins and some jewerly. Its nice to get paid to dump zincs. Oh and I gave a little girl who was hanging around a log cabin penny, maybe she'll get interested in coins,ya never know what can happen.

The bonus was posted about here a few weeks ago. Glad to see you did well on it. |

Update I just ordered 2 items for my brother in-law for x-mas at borders, had a little left over,so i grab a book for my daughter, then a indian head, and buffalo whitman folders that they never have in stock at the local store, plus I saved $6.80 using a online promotion code using a yahoo search. It works if you have a rewards card. 40% off an item code is BBC3553R If your buying anything online do a search for coupons/promotion code before you check out! |

CoinStar is certainly not the most efficient way to dump your pennies. It is slow. If you do not take payment by gift card they charge you 8.9%. But they occasionally run a promotion. When they are willing to kick in a $10 bonus many members here don't mind feeding a CoinStar a little. |

No. The machines are very slow, and unless you get a gift card, the charge for getting cash back is 8.9% They are hated here because of the high fees. So when we can get one over on them, its a small victory for sorters everywhere. I still have to visit my dump banks tomorrow, but I'll be 3 plastic coffee jugs lighter. |

| I would also argue that the coin star machine is not very accurate on the large denomination coins. I shucked in $110 worth of halves and only was credited for $96.50. Even withe gift card I will come up a few bucks short. The machine was pretty close on the $41 in pennies though. Oh, and I used the gift certificate on amazon to buy presents that I was already going to purchase. |

Yeah... I wonder how much people get shorted using coin machines. I've been suspicious a few times with a banks machine, but I never know exactly how much I put in. So it is only suspicion.
I try to keep up with what I'm going to dump, but always end up adding some or not having a good talley of how many I kept out(Copper). |

The Coin Star machines here are accurate to the penny. Largest dump $170 (in pennies) counted with with my CS-10. Wish I would have seen this stream sooner. I would have dumped $400 yesterday for the extra gift cards. Did it take an identifier so you could only do it once?

I used different zip codes and will inlist family and friends for help getting the GC's It asked if I ever used a coinstar before and zips.Only one GC per household,if I remember correctly. I hope they run another promo b4 x-mas.I just looked, not yet. Really helps to get paid to dump, there must be half a dozen of these within 5 miles of me. You can always ask neighbors or friends to help too. |

| It always, optionally, asks for zip codes and whether or not you have used coinstar before. I have belief that the cards were unlimited. |
Just my two cents! |
