Today I have had a dream day, for me. I was doing some hand sorts to get inventory levels back up, and had 7 roll of wheats I had bought previously from a local coin dealer, $2 a roll.
I figured mostly 40 and 50s with a 29 and maybe some 30 per. Standard mix, right? Well it had many many low dates starting with the 1909 plain, many teens and twenties, a 1902 indian head, and the other 40's and fifties. That's right, the wheat roll I bought from my dealer had a feathered liberty in it!! SCORE!! One of the other coins I found was a 1920-S in what looks to be XF/AU! Another SCORE!!
Now after all this I have the bit to handsort to get inventory levels back up and so I grab a lot box of unsorted and start going through it. It starts b-l-e-e-d-i-n-g these 1973-D BU cents that appear to be starting some really nice rainbow toning but still brilliant red luster for the most part. And wheats! Probably 2-3 rolls in the first 30-40.00 worth sorted. 75-85 left to go in the box! Awsome right? Ha Ha!! Could it get any better?? You bet. About 10-15.00 ago I look down in my little hand to see..... Another feathered liberty!!! 1908 in a solid AU!!
That is 2 feathered liberty's in one day, unbelievable!! This puts my reservation up to 20 I believe. I cant wait to see what else falls out of this box. Some one send me some karma so I can get in the flying eagle or 2.50 gold piece clubs!!
Sometimes I wonder what all I miss and send out.
Especially 82-2008, I never look, just return.

Nice finds man. What a day for sure.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Where do you get a $100 box of Pennies?
Havent' seen one before. Is it a commercial box or just a box with 200 rolls in it, prepared by the bank?
Nice scores!! |

Well it is a medium flat rate box reinforced with tape and the flaps taped down, Holds about 100.00 in cents. When The Rydale Coin Artist fills a regular cent box, I dump the copper into the "big box" to handsort later. When I get them done, They are packaged and listed for sale.
Almost a full box of loose 73d BU with some mottled toning came from that sort as well |

I would not buy either coins from a coins store if they were priced or marked as AU.
I would say EX/EF for them both. Hard to say from the photos, but enough contact on the face of both of them, plus the browning, I don't think they would grade AU.
Still, superb finds!! |
