Went to the bank, and got a roll of 1983 cents in various conditions. Due to the condition of many of the cents, I don't wanna take the time to see if one of them has the DDR. Should I just keep the roll and wait a few years, send it off to a grading company and cross fingers that I get a few DDR coins to cover expenses, list up on eBay with enough disclaimers to make a laywer cry uncle and maybe get some small profit, or just re-release it back into circulation?

| Circulated coins (that aren't bullion) of any type will not net you much if any profit EVER. Even a DDR in circulated will hardly pay for itself to be slabbed. If it is a DDR it will go for a bit unslabbed though. So your only "profit motive" is to see for yourself if you have a DDR. Otherwise get rid of it at the bank. |

I think I can safely say that I've looked at 100s of 1983 P searching for the DDR reverse. Haven't found one yet ... have found a very few interesting 83 P with die breaks and one that looked like it was 'on its way to becoming a DDR'.
So, IMHO, you would be very wise to carefully look at all the reverse of the 83 roll you have ... if you are lucky, you'll find one. Good Luck ... honestly hope you do find one!
BTW ... I have read that the 83 P DDR is one of the easiest DD pennies to spot ... not only the "One Cent", but all other lettering on the reverse is clearly doubled. It shouldn't be hard for you to tell if you have any.
best wishes on finding one!

Ditto, only, have looked at 10's of 1,000's. The chances are almost zero that there is anything good in that roll. Give it a quick look (the DDR is visible to the naked eye) then dump it. |

| I have found one and sold it for over $200 without grading it. A circulated roll of all 83 cents would have already been searched through but hey you never know. An uncirculated bank roll would be more inviting, only if it came from only 2 different regions. Mid Florida near Gainsville or north Pensylvania area are the only places these turned up back in 1983. I say open them and see then think about slabbing it if you actually find one. |

My brother lives in NE Ohio and he found two or three of these back in 1983 or so in that same area when they were first being found.
Every time he talks to me now that he knows I search rolls of coins, he will ask me if I have found a 1983 DDR. I say no, but I will keep looking.
Then I ask him if he has found any 1998, 1999, or 2000 Wide AMs! That's my trump card!!!
Enjoy your searches, everyone. |

Wow, you don't want to take the time to search all 50 coins in the whole roll?!? That's where most all the fun comes from. It would take longer to post the listing on Ebay, not to mention all the time it would take to ship a whole roll.

And who on eBay is going to believe you are selling an "unsearched roll?" |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |
