Took the scenic route home through a very rural part of the county Friday and stopped at an area well known for teen age beer bashes. Found it's turned into a dumping ground. Came out with Alum. siding and gutters. An assortment of junk/scrap tin. Some yellow brass and unclean copper 2. Also managed to scrounge up a sac of cans. Also picked up some wood cabinet doors that I'm gonna sell in a rummage sale.
Anyone else here check these dumps and if so how good are your finds? I used to hit them hard when I had a truck for appliances and big items. Guess I've found a new way with a car.

There use to be a few spots where I live, but they have all been covered up. I wish they were still around.

I was talking about this the other day. How you used to be able to find washers, dryers, siding, steel, even engines, just laying around in piles free for the taking. Not so anymore around here. Everyone and their momma is looking for extra money now and even if someone doesn't want to carry it to the scrapyard, someone they know will without them ever having to dump it somewhere. Things like that are hard to find here nowadays.

I used to frequent a few dump sites. I was always nervous about getting charged with dumping, so I always made sure I had a good stack of invoices from the scrapyard to try and prove my point.
Are you throwing that out? |

I sometimes go "dumping" for old bottles and cans. I got almost $300.00 for a rusty beer can (similar to the one in the link) on eBay a few years ago.

I used to plunder through junk piles looking for metals too, but the local municipalities have become so starved for revenue, and the police have become so militant that I'm not even going to give them the chance of accusing me of dumping. Our local kangaroo courts always side with the police sight unseen, with out exception, facts be damned.
I have had decent finds in the the past.

Growing up in north texas I remember searching these from time to time for aluminum cans. Not much more than that, other than maybe a copper core from a vacuum engine or a heavy duty fan.
