I just bought 10 pounds of mixed or Misc. coins from around the world for five dollars per pound.
I ran a magnet through it and found 100 or so coins that I think are likely to be on par with the Canadian Nickles. I also found lots of copper plated steel.
Some of this stuff, especially the older (pre WWII) phillipine and Mexican coins look to me like silver. The Phillipine dimes especially look like silver. They are the exact same size as a USA dime. They could be "coin silver" or 90% silver just like pre-1964 USA dimes.
I will do some weighing and researching to confirm this.
QWESTION:
If I confirm that these are 90% or "coin silver" Where could I exchange these for USA FR Notes?
Philippines dimes from 1907 - 1945 were struck in 75% silver. (no silver after 1945 for 10¢ coins) Mexico 10 centavos from 1925 - 1935 were struck in 72% silver (no silver after 1935 for 10¢ coins)
The only way to exchange them for USA FR notes would be to sell them as silver, or to collectors.
Your best bet is eBay, or a forum member. Foreign coins at less than 90% silver don't get very strong pricing from dealers from my experience.
But if you got a bunch of these at $5/pound in bulk you made out pretty good!
