So far in 2009 Realcent members have scrapped over 99,349 pounds of stuff, according to the post "what did you scrap this week". Keep up the good work! As you all know this not only helps out the environment but our wallets as well!

| I've got a question, I know this is mainly a "scrap metal" discussion forum but how much other non-metals have we recycled? I personally don't keep track of the paper, cardboard/paperboard, plastic, and tin cans I drop off at the local recycle trailer. Since they aren't bought back, never personally kept pounds track, just keep mental notes of the amount of bags I dump in. |

Huh. What's that stuff pay? How'd you get it? My understanding is that that stuff is off limits. Don't you have to trespass just to get it? Honest questions. Thank you.

You don't just go onto railroad property and haul off 100 tons of scrap rail!
We do railroad contracting. We build new track, rebuild old track, and even remove abandoned track. A lot of the work we do is for private companies, but we do work for two major railroads as well.
Best quote we have so far is $210.00 a ton, random lengths, they haul it.
If the quotes were better, I might have sold even more. |

| Wonder if you could build a nice house from all those railroad ties? Iron Cabin style? Would be pretty strong? Guess you'd need a good concrete foundation. |

I figured it was something along those lines, but I didn't want to assume. Thank you for the answer. I get similar questions because I scrap a lot if a/c coils and copper due to my work in the HVAC/R industry.

When we first started recycling full time, we had the three largest HVAC companies in Omaha under contract to haul all their scrap. And we did some big jobs too. Once we did a huge high school that had 7 rooftop units on it. Each unit was 35 feet long and 8 feet wide. Huge coils in each one + some real nice late model Copelamatic compressors in each unit. Sent all those cope's down to Dallas as cores and made a ton of money off them. Good times back then. it was nothing to haul 2-3000 pounds of clean coils in per month during the summer months. |
