Hey guys have a good bit of scrap back home in Texas (copper and brass) but looking into getting into something a little more liquid. Ok so my question, I was at the Flea market this weekend and noticed a plethora of sterling silver spoons, forks and various other utensils. All these were listed for .99 to 2.00 depending on there quality. So what is the MV of an average spoon, knife, fork,etc.. I would like to pick these things up and sell for scrap but a little confused on price and weights along with sales loss when scrapping. Any information will be helpful.

1 out of 500 forks/spoons/knives/platters/etc you flip over will actually be sterling. Has to say Sterling, STER, or 925. Some other markings on silverware can be okay such as 900, 850, 825. Obviously it depends on the size of the utensil. A salt spoon or state souviner spoon can be from $1.00 to $4.00 in melt. A large diner fork can range from $5.00 to $15.00 depending on weight. Best bet is to buy a gram scale from ebay. Will cost you around 10 bucks. With Silver being at $18.38, Sterling is worth 55 cents a gram. Conversion is Spot Price $18.38 x .925 Purity x Total Grams x .0321507 Gram to Troy OZ Conversion. I can be a standing buyer for you at 70% of melt. Meaning at $18.38 I will pay you $0.385 per gram for silver delivered to my address. The most common items I find at garage sales / flea markets / antique malls are baby cups, salt and pepper shakers, and souviner spoons. Watch out for weighted salt and pepper and candle sticks. Sometimes they have as little as 10 grams of silver in them. If it's a good deal go for it, but don't spend a fortune on a weighted item unless you're sure there is a lot of metal there like a commode or serving dish on pedestal.

If they are real and you can get them for that price...Buy every single one and send them to Market Harmony to refine into fine bullion.

"You're not really gonna throw that out...are you"?
