Hi, I do not post much, and am not a huge hoarder. I pickup $5 of pennies and $20 of nickels when I am at a bank, maybe once a week or so.
At TD Bank, the person next to me at the counter was asking for Eisenhowers, and he was surprised when the teller ask him how many does he need. He said usually the banks do not have too many. They said someone dropped off a bunch. He took only $10 worth! I told that teller I would be right back (I wanted to put the pennies and nickels in the car) and purchase whatever IKES she had left.
I waited in line, when my turn came, the teller who had the IKES said to wait for her, so the other customers went around me to the other avail tellers. Another teller opened her window when this conversation about me waiting for the IKES came up, and she said, that she buys them. My teller said, customer already waiting for them. When I got up there and looked at the other tellers sad face, I said, lets split them, and I took $50 worth and I think she got about $40. Her face lit up, and all was well.
So, I thought, why not try another bank, as seems like a lucky day. I went to BOA, and got my $5 pennies and $20 nickels. This is a TRUE STORY. She handed over to me Westward Journey MINT rolls, those ones that that MINT Sold at their site, those colorful MINT wrappers. Even better, 6 of the rolls were 2004 (3 P and 3 D), three 2005, and one 2006. I said those are pretty ones, and the teller said yes. The lines were too long and I did not feel comfortable about asking for more, so I left. I figured the day went pretty good already.

Congratulations on the great pickups. Looks like Kurr was right about this being a great time of year to pick up coin at the bank. Lots of good stuff getting cashed in right now. |

WOW $100 in Ike's at one bank.
Nice score on the Nickels. I don't know if they are pulling any profits on the bay.
Gotta get out early Monday and see what I can find. Better take a big bank roll. I don't want to leave anything behind. |

SmallCHange...very nice, indeed. I love the Ocean in View nickels. I think that is a beautiful design.
Enjoy. |

| Good pickups like that come few and far between, but it always pays to put the bug in the tellers ear that you are looking for these things and always be nice and friendly so that they remember you and will hold coins even if you are not a regular customer. P.S. I give you 6 months to a Year and the sorting bug will be so deep in you that you will start picking up boxes and then more boxes and soon enough you will be up there with the big guys. Keep us posted on any more good finds. |
