I have a couple of Chase branches that order me coin every week without any issues. I went into a branch that I have gotten coin from before but the woman acts like it is an ordeal sometimes to get them for me. Well today I went in and I asked her for $100 in nickels since I had just turned in $100 at a BofA nearby and had the cash in hand. She then wanted my account # so she could "charge" my account for the nickels. I told her I was paying cash and she did not need to charge my account. She said no there may be a small fee for the coins. I told her none of the other Chases do this to me. She said they are not doing her job. Please note she has given me coin before without ever needing my account #. So I told her no I was not going to pay a fee. I told her that she would start being my drop bank then and that I would start bringing her at least $100 in coin each week. She said that was ok. I was a little upset that the Chase branches don't seem to be on the same page. Subsequently, I went to a Wells Fargo nearby and got $180 in nickels.

When the F word comes up, its either time to stop using that bank, or start dumping there.

I don't know. Banks do have to pay for coins themselves. I am more surprized that all banks don't charge a small (0.50%) fee for coin orders. I am pretty sure that some or all businesses get assessed fees.

I am happy when I don't get charged, but I can't get $500 boxes of halves anymore cause WellsF started charging me(the branch that had ordered one on three previous occasions-but they only produced two 40%s). Another WF branch had told me it would cost $15 on the first time I tried to order from them.

Chase in Austin, Texas was going to charge me. One or two branches of Chase in Indiana would order halves free for me. The others wouldn't.

"May your percentages ever increase!"

It varies by branch. Sometimes they just use the "F" word to get you to go away. If you start dumping there on a regular basis they will probably decide they need to charge you a fee for that. With business/merchant accounts there is generally what they call a "soft charge" where they caluculate a charge for the severice and then at the end of the month the account is "analyzed" to see if the amount of business such as average collected balance on hand covers the cost of all those analyzed charges. If the positives outway the negatives all those items are free. If it comes up short the bank may charge the business bank charges for the difference. Many larger banks have a contract with the coin suppliers/armored car service for a fixed amount of deliveries per week/month/quarter. There is not usually an incremental charge for an extra box or 2. That is just the way they try to make money off their customers. Many banks are trying to tighten their belts and look for both anything that might cost them a little or any new potential revenue sources. So expect to see more banks start using the "F" word. Always be nice to your bankers.. they can make your life easy or difficult. One of my regular Chase branches loves me, since I regularly take all their CWR so they don't have to ship it.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

I have both personal and business accounts at Chase (they will give you a business account just for asking...) and I alternate when they ask me which I am getting coin for at each branch. On the business they track it, but since I carry a zero balance on the business account they have no way to charge me fees, and have never tried to do so. They have explained that they want to track businesses that order coin so they can have the right stock on hand. For personal, they have never charged me a fee, although I only ask for 2 or 3 boxes at a time. Two other banks do boxes of halves for me once a month with no charge at all.

Have a standing order for 24 boxes of pennies/week with a Chase branch. Always nice and excited to help "The penny man".
I occasionally drop off some white chocolate chunk macadamia nut cookies after learning they are a favorite there.

The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities.

PennySaved,

You should just keep $100-$200 in dump coins in your trunk. It provided good weight for extra traction in the snow. Whenever the F word comes up and you threaten to dump, you could just go out to your car, grab the coins, and start dumping 60 seconds later to make your point. This would be cool for effect, but I do have to fully agree with HCBTT. We are at the mercy of the banks, no matter how much we try to hardball them. So it certainly is best to always be polite. What we fail to consider is that perhaps the teller was throwing you the F word because the guy before you wanting a large amount of coin was rude. Your open threat to dump may ding the next guy/gal asking to pickup.

Just my two cents!
